The hotel is well set-up, with 15 floors overlooking either the bay or Universal Studios Osaka. Our room was facing Universal on the 12th Floor. It was a large room and came with the usual amenities which were refilled daily. Shower and bathroom were roomy. Only thing was that we had a non-smoking room, but you could still smell remnants of cigarette smoke in the hallways.
The check-in counter has a lovely big aquarium and the lifts are themed as though you are going into the sea. The cafe and entrance are themed around Dinosaurs, so there is an egg threatening to hatch just near the main entrance, and there is a dinosaur skeleton hanging from the roof of the cafe.
Some reviewers have commented on the distance away, but the Universal-City train station is a 3 minute walk away which connects you to the Osaka Loop line, often going directly to JR Osaka (Umeda). We often chose to change trains at Nishikujo and take the Subway line to Namba. This journey took approx 20min as it was 2 stops to Nishikujo, and then 4 stops to Namba, where the main shopping and restaurant area is. Coming to the hotel at night from the airport meant that you had to take a more local train to change at Nishikujo, if you were prepared to do another transfer at Tennoji or Osaka, you could get there a bit quicker if you didn't have much luggage to lug around. If arriving or departing during the day/early evening, your best option is the Airport Limousine Bus that leaves from Universal and takes around 70 minutes.
The area around the hotel is called Universal City Walk which has numerous restaurants, convenience stores, even the standard McDonalds and Starbucks. We ate there on numerous occasions and was mostly the same value to what we found elsewhere.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Universal Port and would recommend to all, especially if you are visiting Universal Studios.
Room Tip: Park facing are better views, look out for cheap rates on various hotel websites
