Stayed here for 5 nights & totally no regrets! We researched many hours on the net for hotels in Osaka & originally zeroed in on the other Monterey hotel called Granmere ( there are 3 in Osaka) but they had no rooms. La soeur was our 2nd pick but we are totally glad for it as it was above our expectations. The hotel rooms are decent sized & the beds are comfy. The bathrooms are excellent, with a bathtub even & everything's pretty much in pristine condition. Every morning, they provide you with a copy of the Japan Times.
The hotel is very conveniently located mid point between 2 subway stations, Kyobashi & Osaka Business Park. Kyobashi is also the hub for a few other train lines like the JR & Keihan lines which you can use to get to & from Kansai airport & Kyoto respectively. We purchased the subway passes & traveled all over Osaka city with relative ease though the sheer number of train routes can be daunting!
The staff at the hotel were very helpful & ready to assist in any way. We found Ms Sakamoto of the front desk to be extremely helpful & she also speaks excellent English to boot!
We are already thinking of a return trip to Osaka & if we go, will definitely stay there or at any of their other sister hotels in the Monterey chain all over Japan.
This hotel has a pretty good location - a fairly short walk from either Kyobashi or Osaka Business Park.
For a business district, Osaka Business Park is extremely pleasant and there are panoramic restaurants at the top of some of the nearby towers if you fancy a quiet night in the area near the hotel.
Fast, free internet access in the room (network cable) - and best of all, exceptionally cool pyjamas! The other nice feature was a beer vending machine on our floor.
Our rooms (twins) had superb views and were well-sized, clean and comfortable.
We stayed here on a weekend in October. I was looking for a hotel that did rooms for three people (parents and teenage son) within easy traveling distacne to USJ and the Acquarium. We arrived at Shin-Osaka and it was easy to get to Kirobashi station from there (change at Osaka station). I'd say no more than 10 mins to train station - previous reviewer must be a slow walker or got lost - you just cross the bridge across the river by walkway and it is there - easy, even with a suitcase. There are many places to eat round the station and failing that just outside the hotel is a macdonals, Subway and Italian restaurant. Kirobashi to Universal studios is easy and staff will give you directions and sell you an all day subway ticket. Sam,e for the Acquarium - we bought our entry ticket and travel ticket at the hotel. Hotel was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was 1,700Y extra - expensive but full range of European/Japanese food on offer to cater for everyone. Reception staff spoke English. There are two computers in the lobby - 100yen for ten mins if you quickly want to check e mail, or you can hire a laptop for 1000Y for 24 hours. We were on the 21st floor and had good views across the city. We stay here again as three bed rooms where they charge for the room and not per person make it good value.
This Hotel was GREAT! The rooms were kind of small for my husband, myself, and our two daughters (ages 4yrs & 10yrs.) We went to Osaka mainly to go to Universal Studios Osaka so this Hotel was recommended. Its about 44 minutes via train from Kansai Airport to Kyobashi Station. To access the hotel by train take the JR Limited Express "HARUKA" to JR Tennnoji Stn.(approx. 31min.), then transfer to JR Osaka Kanjyo Line (approx.13min.) to Kyobashi Station..Kyobashi Station and Hotel Monterey are practically connected so its a 3 minute walk from the exit of the station to the entrance of the hotel. Its about a 19 MIN. TRAIN RIDE FROM kYOBASHI STATION to UNIVERSAL STUDIOS. KYOBASHI STATION to NISHIKUJO STATION (JR Osaka Loop Line Inner Loop)(15 min.) then transfer at NISHIKUJO STATION to UNIVERSAL CITY (JR Yumesaki Line)(5 min.)...Breakfast was pretty good at their buffet and they have a McDonald's a few minutes walking distance from the hotel!!!
