Our room was small and very overpriced - even for Japan. Staff were helpful, but not particularly so - nor friendly. Public bath was nicely adorned, but twice the water was not hot. It was a good location - 20 minute walk from train station. They have helpful maps.

For westeners this would not be the best choice. The staff is sweet and helpful but the hotel is bare bones for those that need a gentle intro to Japan.

I was the only westerner in the hotel during my stay and being the I was flying solo it made it more difficult.

The staff is wonderful and tried their best to help me. I think they were too embarrassed to speak English.

I will say the breakfast is the best bargin in Kyoto hands down. Dinner selection was limited and there are not many choices nearby. ( My tip: visit the restaurants on the south side ground level of the train station. There are some excellent and tasty values there. )

Also the hotel is a short walk from the station and the subway is on the corner.

My wife and I spent 7 days here in early November. The rooms are large for the price and the hotel has a nice japanese bath on the top floor. The location is sousth of mych of the action but it is within a block of the major subway and bus lines so you can get anywhere. Staff was very helpful. I can highly recommend this hotel.

Rooms are spacious but decor is dated, need new sheets, carpet need cleaning.
