“Roomy and comfy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

The Westin Miyako is a behemoth of a hotel in Kyoto. Don't expect old world charm, etc. It's a large property with no soul. That being said it's extremely comfortable and the location is great. There are lots of restaurant choices with some great food. Our favourite part was the bikes that can be rented to explore Kyoto. This, my husband and I made full use of. The rooms are large (always a big deal in Japan). Would recommend it for any kind of stay (couple/family/solo)

The biggest room that we saw in Japan exist in this hotel. It is the best one in Kyoto. I suggest you to have an early morning walk around the temples close to the hotel. Location is superb!

“nice hotel in the winter”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

Photos of leaders/famous people who have been there gave it a feel of being a grand old hotel which was kind of nice. Our room had a beautiful view of the mountains and the city. You should ask for it though. The initial room appointed to us had no view. The hotel bar was great too -- had that nice 70's lodgy warm feel. Perfect place to be on a cold winter's night. They also give you a map for touring the shrines/temples via foot not far from the hotel which was very helpful. Also, we were lucky to be there during the Coming of Age holiday http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coming_of_Age_Day which we weren't aware of until we saw all these young women in kimonos. Would love to return one day.

Room Tip: ask for one with a view. If you don't, they'll happily give you a room at the back.

“Great location, lovely hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

I stayed here when I lived in Japan and was visiting Kyoto for a few days while my family was in town. The location is very good, you can walk to several shrines and temples, as well as great museums, nearby. Down the street there are some great little restaurants worth checking out- delicious food! They also have a really convenient shuttle service that goes downtown which we appreciated. The facilities are lovely, rooms are spacious and clean, and we loved the tea room off the lobby. They had a surprisingly good selection of teas and the food was very good. Overall, the hotel offered a great experience and it was really nice to come in at the end of the day and feel like the enjoyment wasn't over.

“Grand and spacious”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

Great place to end our trip. Hard to find with GPS though. Took us to the back roads and walking route. Charged ¥1000 for carpark though. Good access up to reception via escalator from carpark. Free shuttle to town in 5mins but ends at 8pm. Then you need to take taxi or subway ¥210 for two stops back to hotel. Only free wifi in hotel lobby and LAN is charged in rooms for about ¥1000. Overall a great two night stay in a classic hotel.
