What a wonderful place to stay! The staff were very polite and helpful and went out of their way to make us feel welcomed. The food (dinner and breakfast) was excellent too. The room we had was clean and spacious by Japanese standards. The owner's wife even came up to our room to welcome and thank us for choosing to stay with them. The location was perfect for exploring Kyoto and all its lovely sights. At night too, there was so much to do - walking the pretty streets and alleys of Gion, having traditional Kyoto sushi at Isuju sushi (just round the corner from Gion Fukuzumi), ice-cream and coffee. This place is a walkable distance from Pontocho and Nishiki Market as well (and serviced by a lot of buses). It is not too far from the start of the Philosopher's Walk (to the north) and is also positioned ideally for an exploration of the pretty alleyways and temple and shrines which lead to Kiyomizudera Temple (to its south).
As an aside, I highly recommend using the carry service at Kyoto Station to get your luggage delivered to your accommodation (we sent our bags on to the second place we were staying and used an overnight bag for our first night at Kurama Onsen).
