Very Comfortable hotel (as with most Jap accom, small compared to western). We had a great time hear, lovely staff (even for Japaneses!! ) and in a great central location!
You are smack in the middle of the historical area and are bound to see Geisha on the streets (early evening mostly). Close to major train stations and bus routes. Excellent for anyone !!
Give the onsen a good work out, dont be shy.

If you are prudish..... be mindful the "porn"area is just around the corner. But please don't be scared off as we are talking about Japan here were there is next to no crime. Any reference for porn or [--] bars is so well concealed and could very easily go noticed by kids....they are called "Snack Bars" so be careful if you think your just getting a quick bite to eat LOLOLOLOL!! Its not until post 12/1am that u will see some skimpy dressed girls (or boys for that matter) out front of the snack bars farewelling their guest or patron.

We tried to stay in this hotel after a recommendation but I feel we were badly treated. I got in touch well in advance and was told there wouldn't be a problem booking but that I had to contact them on specific date before which they could not take reservations. When I did they said they were entirely booked up so we had to scramble to find somewhere else at the last minute. I've been told they give most of their rooms to package trips and keep independent travellers hanging in case they have the odd spare room to fill. Whether that's true or not I was unimpressed with the way the treated me. I would recommend the Hotel Iroha in Kyoto instead. Convenient location, great prices, lovely Japanese-style rooms and they were very professional with our - last-minute - booking.

For first time visitors to Japan we wanted to experience a traditional ryokan specifically in the Gion district of Kyoto. Ryokan Gion Fukuzumi was the perfect place. At the very edge of the Geisha district near Higashiyama St and just steps away from the heart of old Gion with all its ancient narrow streets, canals, shops and best of all you get to see Geisha up close and personal. This is an older facility but very clean. The owners and staff are some of the most helpful and kind people we encountered on our visit. There are public baths as well but we didn't get to use them. One very nice thing is that there is no curfew here and that worked for us because we were out very late on occasion.
