This is the most expensive accommodation we ever stayed! As it is so expensive, we only stayed for 1 night, and we both think is worth the experience.
We took a taxi to the Motonago from Kyoto Station. The fare cost was about JPY1,300. Remembered to print our the map and showed it to the Taxi driver. The journey was about 15 min and we reached the highly recommended Ryokan! We were served by the friendly and english spoken staff as we entered the door. Slippers were promptly provided to us to change before we entered the reception area. The staff handled our bags and an English spoken lady gave us a brief orientation of the room and facilities of the Ryokan before we were showed to our room.
Our room was located on the ground floor. It was spacious and clean with an attached toilet and bath area. There was a small garden outside our room which we love it. Though we have a attached bath area, we chose to bath at the public japanese wooden bath to experience the traditional way of bathing! It was a good experience.
Dinner was served in our room. We wore the Yukata and sat comfortable on the floor waiting for our dinner to be served. Our server patiently explained to us on each dishes that they served. Though the food was not that great,(maybe we have too high expectation) but we loved the attention and service that she provided to us during the 2 hours dinner.
Futons were already laid nicely when we came back from our shower. The futons were big and comfortable, we slept facing the garden without the curtain drawn. Traditional Japanese breakfast was served to us exactly the time that we have booked. It come with rice, tofu soup and salmon.
Motonago is located a stone throw away from some interesting attractions like Kiyomizu temple, Yasaka Shrine, Very nice scenery as you walked around the area.. English maps are
available at the counter. The staff patiently guide us where to take the bus to Golden Shirne.
As they checked out is 10 am, they allowed us to put our bags at the counter while we go sightseeing. A service that we appreciated,
This is our first Ryokan experience in Japan (which we loved it) and both agreed you have not visited Japan if you have not stayed in a Ryokan before!
