We spent 5 nights at the Okura in mid-October. It was, all in all, a treat. The room was a good size with a great view. It was very clean and except for the lack of WiFi very up to date. There was internet connection via cable in the room and a badly connected WiFi availability in the lobby. Sometimes that worked; sometimes not. But that is our only complaint. The conceirge staff is just outstanding. They were patient and understanding of our requests. They know their city and offered exactly what we wanted in terms of restaurants or simple directions. They had pictures of a restaurant's entrance so we could find it easily! The location is excellent near a bus stop and walkable to many restaurants and shopping. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

We have stayed at this hotel at least 5 times. The first time was 1997 & it has not lost any of it's fantastic charm. The staff are helpful & friendly. Beautiful lobby & clean good size rooms. Ask for a high floor with a view of the Kamo-gawa river. Don't close your window blinds when you go to sleep. Keep your camera ready by the window & watch for the sunrise. It will be a beautiful light show with colors & shadows that move across the Kyoto mountain range which are dotted with temples & statues. The river & all the people activity around it is fun to watch also. Location of this hotel is great for walking to shops & a river side walk. Eat breakfast in the basement level shops. Small little bakeries down there are a better deal than the hotel breakfast spot. Free WiFi in lobby was nice. Love this Hotel & will return.

Okura hotel is really 5 stars hotel. I stay in corner suite for 5 nights. the room is so large and very good view of Kamo river. The lady at reception has great customer service. always smile and remember my room number. Amenities are Italian made. Location is at subway station and close to shopping avenue. or two bus stop from Takashimaya.Definitely my choice if I choose not to stay in ryokan type hotel.

We stayed at the Kyoto Okura for three nights on our trip to Kyoto. The location is great, with direct access to the subway system in Kyoto. Restaurants and shopping are a short walk away.

The rooms were nice, we had a good view of the mountains and some of the temples in the distance. The rooms have more of a "western" feel than what we had at some other hotels. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We never had a language issue. The only annoyance is the charge for in room coffee. I expect the mini bar to be a ripoff but I expect that in room coffe would be complimentary. There was internet access in the room but no wi-fi.

There are a large number of restaurants in the hotel along with some shopping.
