“Big Room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We paid for a room with triple beds. It is spacious for Japan standard. But the 3rd bed is converted from a sofa and it is as hard as rock....I am not exaggerating......very very difficult to sleep on it especially for adult. I feel it is unfair to charge the room as triple room and the third person have to suffer sleeping on a rock hard bed.
The location is quite good as it is near to subway line and walking distance to all the shopping area nearby.
Japanese breakfast is of good quality and served in the hotel's Japanese restaurant with good ambiance,it is a bit pricey compare to the many other food available around the hotel

“A lovely hotel with very friendly staff”

I stayed in this hotel last december. We would have stayed in a cheaper place but because it was going to be cold, we decided to stay here. It was worth staying in this hotel.

The hotel has really nice rooms with all the necessities. They had all kinds of equipments like AC, Humidifier, Air cleaner, Kettle, etc. We loved it. Especially the Humidifier as the air could get a little dry was amazingly useful.

The staff were very friendly, efficient and useful. They always had a smiling face and always very courteous. They could speak good English for Japanese standard. They could explain us everything that we asked for...

The hotel is not in the centre but not very far from the night life district. One could walk to Shijo and Sanjo easily. We walked it all the time, but we like walking. The subway station is only about 2-3minutes walk from the hotel...which was very convenient. but for buses we had to walk a bit.

I would stay in this hotel if i went to Kyoto again.

“Nice and central”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

I stayed at Gimmond for a whole week. The hotel is located is a very nice part of Kyoto and I could walk around after work and find nice Japanese restaurants where to have dinner. I recommend the Japanese restaurant of the hotel which serves interesting traditional breakfasts. The rooms are very small (approx. 8-10 square meters) but include all amenities that you can expect in hotels of this standard.

“Like an Old Friend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

We planned another trip to Japan and being prime autumn leaf viewing time I started to panic when searching many Kyoto Hotels and found them booked out. The trusty Gimmond Hotel where we had stayed before came to the rescue and we enjoyed the stay there again - the staff are always pleasant. Breakfast there is quite good too.
It is a bit of a walk to the shops but quite an enjoyable one. Oike Dori is such a wide street!
The 711 store just opposite is handy for getting snacks and drinks too.

“Good tourist hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

OK, the rooms are small, and wi-fi is available only in the lobby, but that seems to be par for the course in Japan, so let's just go with it. The Hotel Gimmond is centrally located, with lots of shops and restaurants nearby. The rooms are clean (though did I mention they're small?) and have wired internet, the staff are very friendly and helpful, and the Japanese breakfast - served in the basement dining room, not included in the room rate - is excellent. There's also an Italian restaurant at street level that serves decent coffee, if you need a fix as I do.
