“Nice Hotel,Helpful staff and good location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2011

(stayed there last Nov 2010) for maples leaves holiday. Very good location, near MRT. If you walk from rear door can go straight to Kam market and center of Kyoto for approx 15 mins. I walked to/back Shimiji temple from hotel. .Staff are nic and friendly, they speak English and show me ways to sightseeing locations.

One more thing is that they got humidfier in room so you do not feel stuffy like other japanese hotels when warm air is released. The room size is Ok compared to those typical small one in japan. Very quiet too. Woud stay at this hotel again if coming back to Kyoto.

Room Tip: Upper floor as the nearby building is short and block your view

“Pleasant one-week stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2011

Excellent position, 200m to the intersection of the two main Metro lines (Tozai and Karasuma). Warm and very helpful staff. There is a good restaurant close to the Hall, which can be helpful in case you just arrived and wanna eat something decent.
Got a double room at 5° floor, very quiet and with a comfortable "occidental" bed.

“Reasonably priced, in a reasonable location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2011 via mobile

We picked this hotel after trying unsuccessfully to find cheap hostel accommodation. To put it another way, this hotel was cheaper than some basic hostel rooms. Location-wise, the subway is nearby linking it to the main train station in about five minutes. Our room was large was Japanese standards, and contained a flat-screen TV, fridge, and free wired interenet.
The hotel contained two restaurants - one was Japanese, one was Italian. We only tried the Italian one -was the food was a decent price, and really tasty. Within the area, there are numerous opportunities for all budgets.
If you are looking accommodation in Kyoto, we can recommend the Hotel Gimmond. And it's clearly marked on Google Maps!

“Nice, clean, affordable.”

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel.

It's clean, comfortable and well priced. The Rooms are very small, but that is the case in almost every hotel in Japan, so that's just the way it is.

The staff are incredibly professional and went out of their way for us.
There is a traditional Japanese restaurant in the basement which serves very good traditional food (especially breakfast).

The location is very good; it's one block from Karasuma-Oike subway station, which serves two subway lines. This station is only 3 stops away from Kyoto station (the main train/subway station). There is a farmer's market a few blocks away and a neighbourhood filled with restaurants and bars about 10-15 minutes walking distance.

Overall the Gimmond is not the fanciest hotel, but it's excellent value and I highly recommend it.

“Excellent location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 March 2011

I have used this hotel twice now and I will continue to do so in the future.
The rooms are good quality for the traveller how aims not to spend time in the room but rather outside exploring ths wonderful city.
Some aspects of the hotel might look old, but it is always kept clean, staff service is unmatched in any hotel I have ever stayed.
The location is the best part of this hotel, right smack in the middle of town and within a 5 minute walking distance to virtually anything you need. Subwaystation just down the street, good places to eat just around the corner... I have only good things to say about this hotel.
