“Avoid winter, otherwise nice hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2011

We were there in January 2011. The room was so cold that we had really difficulty to enjoy our stay.
The service was good, the room was really nice. But the undersized heating system was not efficient at all and we really suffered from the cold.
The location is not really convenient either. It is quite far from every interesting things.
The breakfast was included but the quantity was quite small.

Otherwise, we really liked sleeping in those futon.

Erick

“Ryokan With High Quality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2010

Not only visiting Japan -- staying Japan. A near-perfect experience!

This establishment is a true mix of traditional Japanese interior and living -- with the quality and amenities of any major international 4 or 5-star hotel. What makes it so worth, is that you truly feel like being IN and EMBRACED by the local culture, without cutting back on comfort even a bit.

Let me start off by saying that the room itself was a dream. Furnished with the most comfortable tatami flooring, generous flat-screen HD TV, microwave, water boiler, and so much more, you've got everything you might ever need, right in your room.
Ethernet cable was, however, to be picked up from the front desk. Still, not a big deal.
The only, though modest, drawback would be that the bathroom was a tad too small.

I didn't take the time to try out in-hotel amenities, such as the bath and sauna, so I will leave that out of this review.

Their service was of great quality, although few of their employees spoke any English, however, those who did were virtually fluent. Regardless, they did everything they could to make our stay as enjoyable as possible, whether it involved communicating in English or not.

One important thing to note, is that they only serve(d at the time,) three different breakfast options. If I'm not mistaken, they were all some sort of sushi-related foods. As delicious as it was, even for breakfast (surprisingly enough!), this might be one thing to take into consideration. But no one should ever avoid this hotel for that reason only, especially when there's a 24/7 FamilyMart just across the street!

Location; great. Right next to Shijo-Omiya railway station, and a relatively short walk from Karasuma Oike subway station.

“east meet west”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2010

good location. not that close to the downtown, but you can reach easily.
great design. i would call it "fusion chic" or "smart boutique" if it will be in europe. but it in kyoto, so i call it "japanese design".
staff is kind and really helpful.
overall the whole hotel is absolutely clean.
i wanted to have a japanese style room, so we get it. it was spacious! not properly traditional, but traditional enough to feel that i am in japan in every second.
bedding was fantastic. really.
the bathroom was a small cabin, but it's ok, it's japan.

“Really, really nice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2010

It's not in the most convenient location BUT you get past that quickly. Busses stop amost right outside the door - a quick way to get downtown. Don't forget to ask the staff for a 500Y day pass for the bus (child passes can be bought for 250Y at the bus depot at outside Kyoto Station).

The foyer and reception seem to belong to a more expensive hotel. Staff are wonderful and the rooms are simple but stylish. There's a plasma mounted on the wall, heaps of space, the chairs convert into your bed for the night. Futons (to put on top) are in the roomy cupboard and makes one of the most comfy beds ever.

Everytime I try to book a room now it's sold out. I'm not surprised. Did I mention that a complimentary breakfast is delivered to your room in the morning?

“Great Hotel with the perfect location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2010

This was an awesome hote!. Very clean, staff was very nice, and rooms were very comfy. Rooms very, very clean, newly remodeled and simple. A bit smaller but totally functional for a hotel room, compared to western standards. Nice size refer and microwave.. The beds were so comfy! I'm looking on-line to buy one. Breakfast was very prompt and good (I enjoyed the Japanese selection) Used the public bath every evening and it was very clean and relaxing. So close to sightseeing and stores. Highly recommended!
