Located over the top of the outstandingly designed Kyoto Railway Station, this hotel is owned by Japan Rail. The rooms are genuinely five star size and quality. But the service exceeded this. On the first night I did my usual trick of separating the doona from the sheeting in which it was encased, and then placing the uncovered doona over the sheeting. This enables us to push back the doona and just use the doona cover as a top sheet, basically because we get too hot overnight. Usually, we have to repeat this exercise every night. However, the hotel staff caught on to our problem and although they replaced the doona cover, they also provided us with a top sheet, thus ensuring that the bed was comfortable for us and also looked good.
We experienced the second example of excellent service when we sought the concierge's assistance in retrieving a kindle e book that I left on the train in Osaka the day before. Instead of letting us know where to find the lost property office, she rang them and organised for the kindle to be transported to the hotel. Not only does this reflect excellent service on the part of the hotel adn Japan Rail but was also our second experience of the honesty of people in Japan. A few days earlier, my grandsons found their new beanies hanging on a branch in a park in the centre of Tokyo a week after they had dropped them there.
