This hotel is adequate, but feels very old inside the rooms. Stayed 4 nights on a business trip in a standard single room. Arrived 9.00 pm the first night, and reception staff were polite and helpful. My room was small, furnished mainly with old worn furniture and the bed was shoved up against the wall in one corner. The room was hot, with the air con not working - apparently its only switched on during the summer. Modern TV had no english speaking channels at all. There was a mini bar though with enough fridge space to stock up with locally purchased items - rather than pay inflated hotel prices. First problem upon meeting up with a colleague for a drink was - well - there was no bar! Only a restaurant. So if you want a relaxing drink after travelling or a long day working, you have to go out.
Sound proofing is also an issue, walls are paper thin and you can easily hear conversation and anything else that happens to be going on in the next room. If your neighbors stay up late, you stay up late!
Bathroom was very tired, old fashioned japanese style plastic shell bathroom, a cracked sink unit, a half size bath and a shower fed by a rubber pipe from the bath taps. Not nice.
For a business trip the hotel does the job (apart from noise from adjoining rooms) in terms of having somewhere to sleep, but I have to say i was glad when my stay was over. The staff are the one redeeming feature - very friendly, polite and helpful at all times.
The hotel is fire trap...a disaster waiting to happen. The fire escape stairs are locked (both ways) at all times. The windows in the rooms are locked (no key available). Furthermore the windows have a steel mesh within to prevent them from being smashed.
To our dismay, the staircase is used as a storage facility....These staircases are supposed to be perfectly empty so that in case of fire there is no combustible material to attract fire!
What happened to Japanese orderliness?
I went to Kobe this time to be back to where I had lived before. Now I would be staying alone at a hotel for the first time, which I was a bit worried about. But I had no reason to be worried. The staff were very friendly, and it felt a bit ' like home' to stay there. After visiting friends I didn't have to walk a long way night-time to get 'home'. It was very central.
Since I stayed 'quite long' they were very sweet to give me an extra nice and a bigger room than I ordered! I was very pleased! I hope to come back some day again, and I will, no doubt,
go back to this hotel.
This hotel is a nice, reasonable, choice for a visit to the area. It is within easy walking distance of Sannomiya station (major transportation hub, including bus to Kansai airport).
The "Spanish" restaurant across the street is excellent for Spanish dishes and drinks, including tapas. Starbucks and McDonalds are not far. A wireless Internet connection (free) is on the main floor and usable from the café and lobby. Breakfast (included) is not bad. Staff is very nice. As is typical for Japan, rooms are not large. Plenty of hot water.
