Loved staying at Ryokan Sansui!
The location was great, on a quiet street next to the river. The tram stopped less than a block away and took us directly to Hiroshima Station.
Also within a block was a friendly little Spanish bar, which we tried out on our first night in town. It was great, and a quick stumble home after several glasses of Sangria.
There was a great little French restaurant on the opposite side of that street with a single patio table that beckoned us on our second night. We sat there happily sipping wine and tasting the various dishes that the chef decided to make for us; we had a language barrier, so we just basically rubbed our stomachs to indicate that we needed more food and he kept it coming.
It was wonderful, and not at all expensive.
It was a pleasant 10-15 minute walk to Peace Memorial Park and the A-Dome...after spending so much time on bullet trains on our whirlwind week in Japan, it was nice to take a break from public transit.
Our room was as tiny as I had expected, which was fine. The roll-up beds were very soft and comfortable....we slept like babies! There was a kettle in the room so we could start our day with some tea. The woman who runs the ryokan is a gentle and sweet person who speaks just a tiny bit of English, just enough to give us directions to restaurants and the Peace Park.
I had a bath late one evening, as I noticed that the shower room is meant for one person or a couple. If the ryokan were full, it might be a wait to shower in the morning.
All in all, a great experience. I would definitely stay there again!
