“friendly guesthouse”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2010

We stayed one night in Hiroshima and had limited time to visit the Peace Memorial park and Miyajima, therefore this guesthouse was perfectly located.
The landlady is lovely and anticipates what information you will require, very handy!
The accomodation is simple, without fril but has everything you need. In your room you will find yukatas, a small table for tea and your Japanese style bed. The bathroom is common, but very clean.
Overall this is a relatively good price accomodation which I would recommend for the location and a stay while it is warm.
I personally did not have the best stay, it was my first experience on a Japanese style bed - as in "on the floor" so not the best after a backpacking day and I was really cold overnight (there is no heating system).

“Good accommodation for large family”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2010

Finding accommodation for a large family is very difficult in Japan. This ryokan was able to accommodate our family in one small but very basic apartment. If you are claustrophobic you may not like the extemely narrow tunnel type entrance to the apartment though! We had to walk about 20 meters up the road to have a shower. Considering we were able to be accommodated in one place we were very happy though. The owner/manager was extremely friendly and helpful.

“It felt like the true Japanese experience.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2010

Loved staying at Ryokan Sansui!
The location was great, on a quiet street next to the river. The tram stopped less than a block away and took us directly to Hiroshima Station.
Also within a block was a friendly little Spanish bar, which we tried out on our first night in town. It was great, and a quick stumble home after several glasses of Sangria.
There was a great little French restaurant on the opposite side of that street with a single patio table that beckoned us on our second night. We sat there happily sipping wine and tasting the various dishes that the chef decided to make for us; we had a language barrier, so we just basically rubbed our stomachs to indicate that we needed more food and he kept it coming.
It was wonderful, and not at all expensive.

It was a pleasant 10-15 minute walk to Peace Memorial Park and the A-Dome...after spending so much time on bullet trains on our whirlwind week in Japan, it was nice to take a break from public transit.

Our room was as tiny as I had expected, which was fine. The roll-up beds were very soft and comfortable....we slept like babies! There was a kettle in the room so we could start our day with some tea. The woman who runs the ryokan is a gentle and sweet person who speaks just a tiny bit of English, just enough to give us directions to restaurants and the Peace Park.

I had a bath late one evening, as I noticed that the shower room is meant for one person or a couple. If the ryokan were full, it might be a wait to shower in the morning.

All in all, a great experience. I would definitely stay there again!

“Great first time Ryokan Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 April 2010

This was our first experience of a Ryokan (Japanese Guest House). The owner speaks little English, but is very obliging and tries very hard. We managed to communicate very well.

The rooms are small, but are made up for you when you arrive. Its shared bathroom, which is downstairs, with toilets upstairs. Rooms very clean and tidy, not good for views though - we looked at a wall outside of our window.

It is the other side of the river from the city centre, but its 5 mins walk to the peace park, and several good resturaunts. There are also some other resturaunts closer which we didnt try. There were also a number of large hotels in this district. Easy to get to from JR station by tram and 1 min walk.

Recommended for first time Ryokan-ers!
