I wanted my son to have an authentic japanese experience. We spent a night at Ryokan Sansui, run by a very lovely lady. She really did everything to make our stay a pleasant one. The location is very convenient, just around the corner from a tram station Koamicho, tram line 2, Easy access from Hiroshima station. Same tram line runs all the way to the Miyajima ferrys. The Ryokan in at walking distance from Peace Memorial Park and the A-bomb Dome.

The Ryokan is easy to find. Look for the house with lots and lots of beautiful flowers . As in all japanese house you take off your shoes at the entrance. A wall full of pictures of satisfied guests speaks volumes. My little son was most impressed by the old samurai swords in the dining room. Our room was clean and cosy. Real, genuine futon floor. Air conditioning. Small table and a TV. Complimentary green tea. Shared bathroom was very clean. Affordable and genuine experience. Very lovely lady.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Sansui for 2 nights. We were on a longer Japan trip and wanted to experience a Ryokan as part of our trip. We were very happy with our choice. The room was clean and tidy and the shared toilet (always spotless!!) just outside our room, so was absolutely no problem. The real fun element though is the landlady - she is so sweet and really helpful and cooks a fantastic breakfast (fish, scrambled egg, rice, miso soup, salad and fresh fruit) that really sets you up for the day! The location is very convenient, just aorund the corner from a tram station, so easy to get to the station. The tram also runs all the way down to Miyajima ferry station (or if you have a Japan rail pass, you can change at an earlier stop to the JR line). Very much enjoyed our stay and can only recommend if you are looking for a true Japanese experience (but not at the huge cost often associated with Ryokan stays).

We stayed one night in Hiroshima and had limited time to visit the Peace Memorial park and Miyajima, therefore this guesthouse was perfectly located.
The landlady is lovely and anticipates what information you will require, very handy!
The accomodation is simple, without fril but has everything you need. In your room you will find yukatas, a small table for tea and your Japanese style bed. The bathroom is common, but very clean.
Overall this is a relatively good price accomodation which I would recommend for the location and a stay while it is warm.
I personally did not have the best stay, it was my first experience on a Japanese style bed - as in "on the floor" so not the best after a backpacking day and I was really cold overnight (there is no heating system).

Finding accommodation for a large family is very difficult in Japan. This ryokan was able to accommodate our family in one small but very basic apartment. If you are claustrophobic you may not like the extemely narrow tunnel type entrance to the apartment though! We had to walk about 20 meters up the road to have a shower. Considering we were able to be accommodated in one place we were very happy though. The owner/manager was extremely friendly and helpful.
