I stayed for one night at the World Friendship Center in Hiroshima recently. Run by volunteer directors from the US, the WFC is a lovely, relaxed space to stay.
They responded quickly via email to my last minute inquiry and the directions on the website were easy to follow and I found it with no problems. From Hiroshima station it takes about 35 minutes to get there - via street car (25mins) and then about a 5-10 minute stroll.
It is about a 10 minute walk to the Peace Park and if you would like to go to Miyajima you can easily get there via street car/ferry or street car/train/ferry.
A continental breakfast (toast, cereal, yoghurt, juice, coffee/tea) is included in the room rate and you eat with the other guests in the lounge room which is a nice way to meet other travellers and share stories.
There are only four rooms so you know you're going to get a personalised experience. My room was a traditional japanese tatami room with a single futon (airconditioned) - shared bathroom and toilet. There is a laundry service available if you require it.
There is free high speed wifi in the room or a computer in the lounge room if required.
My hosts were extremely friendly and greeting me with a nice cold drink when I arrived and they always greeted me with a warm smile.
I would definitely recommend the WFC.
