“Very good stay and very nice staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

I enjoyed my stay very much, even if it was only 1 night. The staff is very very friendly and can share good tips and stories. They can also arrange a talk with an a bomb survivor or a guided tour for free.

The directions to the hotel you get are very good and the a bomb dome is about 15 minutes walking time. You get a complimentary breakfast the next morning. Considering the price, the friendly staff and all the optional extra's this is a real bargain.

“Excellent stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

We stayed at the WFC Hiroshima for 3 nights as a couple plus 4 month old baby while holidaying in Japan.

The hosts JoAnn and Larry were very accommodating and we were lucky to the the annex of the accommodation to ourselves for our stay.

Rooms were clean, spacious and traditional tatami plus futons.

Definitely recommend trying to arrange the Peace Park tour and atomic bomb survivor (hibakusha) talk via the WFC (price=free). They were very interesting and in places heart-wrenching.

Also - make sure you have the local speciality okanomiyaki at the little corner restaurant (try spicy soba okanomiyaki with cheese). Amazing.

Room Tip: Ask JoAnn / Larry for recommendations depending on your travel style. We had a young baby, so they...

“Shared Great Barbara Reynolds Story”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

Wonderfully large and very clean room. Great Breakfast with fresh fruit. Very inexpensive. Really friendly folks share the Barbara Reynolds story and the story of the post A-bomb victims and her work to get their story told. Only 15 minutes from peace park in a quiet neighborhood. A real value, I will remember their hospitality and their story long after my return from Japan.

“working for peace - one friend at a time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2011

If you're coming to Hiroshima to learn about the atom bomb and its effects then this is the place to stay. Started by an American woman back ion the 1960s it aims to make friendships between travellers. You stay in Japanese-style rooms only 15 mins walk from the Peace Park. Currently run by a lovely retired American couple who make you feel really welcome. They can arrange tours of the park for you, or even a meeting with an A-bomb survivor.

“Friendly times at the World Friendship Center”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2011

I stayed for one night at the World Friendship Center in Hiroshima recently. Run by volunteer directors from the US, the WFC is a lovely, relaxed space to stay.
They responded quickly via email to my last minute inquiry and the directions on the website were easy to follow and I found it with no problems. From Hiroshima station it takes about 35 minutes to get there - via street car (25mins) and then about a 5-10 minute stroll.
It is about a 10 minute walk to the Peace Park and if you would like to go to Miyajima you can easily get there via street car/ferry or street car/train/ferry.
A continental breakfast (toast, cereal, yoghurt, juice, coffee/tea) is included in the room rate and you eat with the other guests in the lounge room which is a nice way to meet other travellers and share stories.
There are only four rooms so you know you're going to get a personalised experience. My room was a traditional japanese tatami room with a single futon (airconditioned) - shared bathroom and toilet. There is a laundry service available if you require it.
There is free high speed wifi in the room or a computer in the lounge room if required.
My hosts were extremely friendly and greeting me with a nice cold drink when I arrived and they always greeted me with a warm smile.
I would definitely recommend the WFC.
