“Great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

This hotel is the best choice if you are coming by a train, willing to drop off your baggage right away, since it is literally at the "shinkansen station". The main lines of public transport pass through here which makes it really convenient for sightseeing.
The room and bathroom is really small /average in Japan/, equipment is old, there is no wi-fi (January 2011) in the rooms, only lan internet connection.
The bed is short /average in Japan/ and rather uncomfortable if you aren't into very hard sprung ones.
The breakfast was really good with a fair variety of choices, both "western" and "eastern".
The hotel lobby is way nicer than the rest. Corridors are old and stuffy and the present of sweat odour was probably not a product of my nasal halucination since it stayed for three days and was confirmed by my partner.
The staff was OK but didn't allow us to enter the room 10 minutes before the "official check-in" was supposed to start. Not that our room wasn't vacant or ready just our counterpart on the other side of the frontdesk lacked empathy :-)
Generally: Great location, average rooms, good breakfast

“Stay nowhere else in Hiroshima”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

The Granvia is a wonderful place to stay in a wonderful city. Great service, great views, and a gorgeous lobby with an excellent breakfast buffet featuring tons of healthy choices. The only reason I can't give this 5 stars is that the beds are not incredibly comfy, only OK. I can't imagine a better choice for your vacation in Hiroshima.

Room Tip: The higher up, the better the view. Also, try and get one that overlooks the wedding area. It's...

“Loved their food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

We stayed there for a night with a package that includes 1. deluxe room for 2, 2. dinner buffet, 3. breakfast (western style buffet, or japanese style breakfast set). The total price for 2 persons was something less than 19000jpy.

The room was very spacious, and the facilities were nice and new. We loved them, totally.

On top of all, their food was oh-so-good. For the dinner, we had a buffet which featured stuffs like roastbeef, steak, salads, soup, Japanese-style stewed seafood, veggies, AND, Chinese style foods. Oh, I forgot desserts, a whole selection of desserts, even OTC ice cream concoctions with which you can add many kinds of toppings like nuts, fruits, everything and this nice lady mixes the stuffs on the cold stone plate exclusively for you.
A little something for everyone, literally. Everything was so tasty, unlike some crappy assorted foods called buffet in places like Hakone or Tokyo. I suppose even if you have big appetites, it's hard to sample everything.

As for the breakfast, we choose Japanese style set menu. It was no ordinary breakfast. Basically, we detest soymilk, or tonyu in Japan, because of the bad tastes and everything. However, the tonyu on our tray was shining, like a jewel, so I tried it first and it tasted like vichyssoise, only better. The rest of the set was like japanese style omelet, steamed rice, very yummy tofu w/superyummy sauce, baked fish, miso soup, nori, and so on.

Seriously, it looks like Hiroshima is the best place for food lovers. It was the first time we went there, and everything tasted better than the rest of Japan, like Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Chiba, Tokyo, where they serve yucky to ok food, but limited to ok, not extraordinarily delicious unless you pay like crazy. (Tochigi is another great gourmet place in Japan, but they don't have an ocean so the culinary options are limited to the products from rivers, lakes and mountains.)

We'd love to visit Hiroshima again, sometime in the future, for we didn't get to try their local delicacy called Uni-Horen (fresh sea-urchin served on top of butter-sauteed spinach, they serve this at teppanyaki joints). In addition, we haven't tried their okonomiyaki yet (Hiroshima-yaki sold in Chiba tends to be so yucky you often get sick, but the real ones in Hiroshima tastes really good - a testimony from my associates).

So in overall, we loved them so much. The staffs were couteous, nice and efficient. The room was clean. And, the package included dinner and breakfast, so we didn't need to worry about spending too much on meals. Actually, the chinese restaurant located in the hotel complex was pretty tempting (their lunch was cheap, for japanese standard, only 2000jpy per a person), we had no time for that.

Anyways, I'd recommend this hotel for everybody planning a vacation in Hiroshima (especially, those with kids who tend to get fussy with food). I saw many kids eating there happily, all smiling.

“Comfortable and clean with reasonable price”

The hotel was clean and quite no noise at all from outside.
I liked the view in front of Sheraton hotel and the location is near to Hiroshima station where you can find everything from cafe shops, restaurants, shopping mall or even a pharmacy!
My recommendation for you if you decided to stay in this hotel is to get the view in front of Sheraton hotel and on higher floor ( See the attached photos).

“Can't beat the location, great service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

As mentioned in my earlier review of the New Miyako Kyoto, this was part of a Shinkansen/Kyoto/Hiroshima package. We loved the location as it is right at the Hiroshima Station, with easy access to the city's tram system. The station complex itself has decent shopping and eating facilities. We settled for the Denmark Cafe for breakfast each moring.

The facilities are dated but well maintained. The staff and their service excellent. Because Typhoon Roke cut across our Shinkansen route back to Shin-Yokohama, service north of Osaka was cancelled for the night. We had already checked out of the hotel but the staff greeted us back and promptly accomodated us in new rooms for the unplanned extra night.

We would stay here again if we ever go back to that part of the world.

As for Japan, the country, the people, the culture - all very fascinating, elegant, safe and one of the best things I have done in my life.
