The hotel is located centrally with many important areas situated close the location. The hotel is expensive, however the facilities inside may not be 5 star. Not to recall the fact that hotels in Japan are expensive though. If you are wishing for a nice hotel to stay, this is recommended! However there are many other hotels nearby which you may also want to research before your stay here...

I took my mother to Japan to visit relatives and to see this part of the country that she had not seen before. I was very concerned that I would select a hotel that would not be so nice anymore, since it is one of the older ones.
We were both quite pleased. The staff was excellent, we were upgraded to one of the newly renovated rooms, which was quite large and well appointed. The lobby was
indeed grand and quite impressive. It also had pictures of the emperors visit, which my mother especially enjoyed. I WOULD DEFINITELY STAY HERE AGAIN!

The best part about Sapporo Grand Hotel is the location - about 3 blocks south from the main train station and most of the large department stores (Daimaru, Loft, OIOI), and whole lof of electrical bargain stores. Another 3 blocks south of the hotel is the main city park with TV tower, its good for a short walk if the weather is not too cold.

The rooms were large for Japanese standards, and very comfortable. Breakfast was the best, with a large spacious restaurant with different toned seating areas. The most interesting part was the honey. There were about 8 different types of flavoured honey in little jars sitting on top of a stand. You lift the jar, but don't tilt to pour; the honey is dispensed from the bottom of the jar. Trust the Japanese to come up with such a gadget!

The hotel lobby is renovated but unfortunately the rooms are not. The room was small (to be expected) and the room smelled a bit musty (again, to be expected). The price was fair. But, the breakfast (Western) was really not appetizing.
