The hotel was good with reasonable location.

I stay in hotel sleepyinn of Beijing before coming to this hotel, the staff at speeyinn was exceptionally friendly, but in west lake hotel also the staff was reasonably good. They taught some of us the Chinese dance, exceptional experience for us, but some time the staff sound little arrogant, but okay like.

The room I stayed was with top sun light sloping room, excellent room. But be careful with hot water in bathroom, the fittings are not the best.

The location seems safe to stay with family.

a previous reviewer complained that the staff treat the hostel as their own private space, and we had the same experience. the tv is on 24 hours with meaningless chinese soapies.- and there are a lot of non residents hanging around and using the computers, only one of which worked.

we booked a tour with the young man who seemed to be the manager???we were not informed that the tour was in chinese only, and we had to endure hours of high pitched screaming in chinese which gave all the non chinese a huge headache. we were forced into compulsory tours of a tea and silk factory which we did not want- and no explanation in english of what was happening. the canal town tour was horrendous as it was full of the largest bus tours i have ever experienced in china, and it was impossible to see anything, although the town would be quite enchanting if you could see it.

however the worst thing was that all the chinese tour group were dropped off at their hotels and they wanted to dump all the non chinese on the other side of town, and it was our duty to catch a taxi back to the hotel. after a huge argument we managed to force them to return us to the hostel. there were a lot of phone calls backwards and forwards to the hostel, and only when we mentioned the word 'trip advisor' was any action taken. when we arrived back(hours later) and demanded an explanation - the young man ran off to vomit!! it was all very strange. no apology etc and they are making some profit from these tours- hoping the foreigners will just pay and keep quiet!

the beds were sooo hard i had trouble sleeping. the hostel is only good for very young travellers who do not mind some of these inconveniences. we stayed there because the reviews had been so good , but i would advise travellers to spend extra money and stay somewhere better.

Great little hostel, 6 of us stayed in one mixed dorm. The downstairs area is just like a big lounge and so comfortable. Ths staff are very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend and go back if I return to Hangzhou.

location very nice! just right next the west lake, room not bad...rate perfect cheap :)
