Wow, these SSAW hotels are really an excellent value. For about $50 US (338 RMB) I got a queen bed in an extremely modern, clean room, with free internet access. You have to walk down a driveway to get to the entrance, but once there you'll realize how nice this place is.
However, this is not a good place for tourists. It's fairly far from Westlake and most other tourist sites. Having said that, it's such a nice hotel and good value, you might consider staying here and taking cabs. For a better location, see the SSAW on Jiefang Lu.

We booked this hotel to stay by the Huanglong stadium to be near the starting line for the Hangzhou marathon. We were expecting a fairly dull hotel for the price and were certainly greeted by a fairly dull hotel façade. Yet, the SSAW Yilian turned out to be a little jewel behind that façade.

There was a lot of effort put into making a modern yet Chinese decor (water features, rock gardens, dancer's hand statues as lamps). The rooms were clean and decently sized with a large circular mirror in the bathroom and room. All in all, eventhough we did not try the breakfast, we were positively impressed.

We were told no Chinese is spoken at the hotel but were still assisted via email by Ivy, an incredibly kind foreign relations manager, who even had a map to the stadium drawn out for us. Though taxis can be difficult to find as the area is not near the lake / city center, it was still worth the great hotel price. We'll go back again!

Nice hotel, nice bathroom, clean, large bed, free Internet, very close to the shops and the famous lake. Staff at reception very friendly and speak good English which is really nice in China. Great stay in Hangzhou.
