I went with my father for two days in the beginning of November. The location is great, right off West Lake. The pier is right in front of the hotel. The price is reasonable. However, it is somewhat worn-out and a little dirty. Stains on towel and bathtub. The service is quite rude. Not friendly at all. The breakfast was not too good either. This hotel is mainly tailored to Chinese locals. But if you don't mind the negatives I just mentioned and just use the hotel for basic amenity and for sleep. Go ahead. One more thing, the walls are too thin, you can hear people talking next door. But the beds are comfortable. For internet usage at the business center is RMB 10 dollars for 1 hour.

I stayed at the Overseas Chinese Hotel in Hangzhou, China two weeks ago and I couldn't agree with all the other reviewers more. I didn't see any sleazy women but the brat next door was unbearable. The smoke odor from the corridor seeping into the room was sickening. Sure it has a great location right in front of West Lake but the view isn't that special.

I stayed in this hotel for my first night in Hangzhou. The fact that I was in the city for nearly a month and never returned to the Overseas Chinese hotel should indicate how I felt about it.
First, the location, across the street from the most popular part of Westlake was great....really unbeatable, unless you prefer to be in a more peaceful area.
However, the hotel was really run down and depressing. For the same price, a single can stay next door in the much nicer Lakeview (see review).

The hotel is quite basic but well located right across the lake. The Hyatt was 3 mins down the road but charges 3x the price. The rooms were all smoking but not particularly pungent. Beds are typical Chinese hard-as-a-rock. Strangely the twin beds are almost just as large as the king sized beds. Lakeview rooms are worth the premium but expect noise from the busy road in front of the hotel. Lake views are only available from rooms on the 4th or 5th floor.

Ignore the basic breakfast and splurge instead on brunch at the Starbucks or at the Hyatt next door. i will return again for the spectacular location.
