We had a superior room for 3 nights, the rooms were really nice, bed was a supersize bed that was comfy and two pillows each.
The shower was hot and felt like a power shower. There was a iron/board and safe in the room.
The breakfasts were top class and all different types of food available, on most of the days we were shown to our table and you were then brought tea/coffee, however if lots of people around then this routine is thrown out of the window and you had to find table and ask for service as you could not obtain tea/coffee without assistance so best to wait at reception for waitress to take you to table, that way you get served probably and not just accept the notion of take a seat anywhere from the hostess.
Wifi is free in the lounge (however sometimes was annoyingly slow) but not available in the rooms, drinks are on the pricey side as they add 15% service charge to everything, one of the bars does have a happy hour from 6-8pm, buy one get one free. Pool table was 10rmb for 10 mins.
The swimming pool and gym is unavailable due to repairs from Aug to mid Jan 2012, however you can use a local gym.
We had a meal in the oak grill, and it was exceptional however again pricey, 2 drinks, 2 steaks was about £60 but was top grade and romantic meal.
Hotel is not far from main shops (silk Market/designer street) but a good 30mins by taxi to west lake. Plenty of chinese cafe/bakeries around the hotel, we found a cafe on 4th floor diagonal to hotel (next to bank) that gave us 2 meat, veg , rice, two drinks for £10 but it was a cafe style place and it was a lot of finger pointing to get what you want, name of place was Qing ling.
I found Hangzhou a very relaxing place, however the number of bikes is annoying as they use the pedestrian paths even more so than in Beijing or Xian. We arranged a tour guide to take us to tea plantation, project 704, lingyin temple and a boat ride on the west lake in one day which we could not have done independently. You can easily spend the whole day at west lake if it is a nice day and has a similar feel to the lake district in England.
