I stayed here for Christmas 2011. Overall my experience was good, but some things left me very disappointed. Let's start with the pros:
Location: The hotel and its grounds are fabulous. There are jetties that extend into the lake and wonderful landscaped gardens. Also not be missed is the nearby lighthouse (great view!) and hills. If you live in a big city prepare to be knocked out by the silence too.
Rooms: Spacious, unusual decor and perhaps the comfiest beds in China. Balconies will be great in summer.
Service: The employees here are all very young and eager to please. I have to say that I felt very welcome at this hotel.
Club lounge: Great ambience, with lots of private areas and huge sofas.
Now the cons:
Food: I ate in the club lounge on my first night, the lobby bar and had breakfast in the main restaurant. The food was fine, but not good enough for an Intercontinental.
Pool: The changing facilities in the indoor pool are far too small. Also there was no hot tub or sauna.
Cleanliness: After my room was 'cleaned' I found hair on the floor and dead bugs by the window.
Club lounge closed: This is by far my biggest gripe, and almost spoiled my trip. I checked in on a Saturday and was told that 'you can have breakfast tomorrow in the club'. Okay, so on Sunday morning I went to the fifth floor and found that the club was closed. I asked at the front desk and apparently 'the club is closed on Sundays'. Excuse me?? There is a paying club guest in your hotel and the club is closed?? And no one told me? Club rooms aren't cheap and I am still very disappointed about this.
