Got there at 8 PM and left at noon the next day - short conference, but a long trip from BCN
Hotel is quite striking. Large open and gorgeous lobby, quick check-in. The room was a delight. Very large and well decorated, with a very comfortable and soft bed with great pillows. The bathroom is quite modern with sunken tub and walk in glass shower stall.
Had only a quick breakfast in the Executive Lounge, very good.
Conference facilities were also very good.
Would look forward to the stay there if I need to be in Kunming again.
Oh yes. Checkout was pretty weak. I was rushing for a plane, and had to wait five minutes for someone to go to my room and review my minibar. Just didn't trust my "Snickers and two beers". Maddening but welcome to China.

We were in Kunming for two days and was extremely disappointed with the hotel after the good reviews we saw on tripadvisor. Below is a list of the issues with the hotel:

1. air con was centrally controlled, despite having a dial on the wall. As a result it was extremely hot all the time with smell of cigarette smoking coming through. We had to leave the window open at all time, and were subjected to outside pollution and noise all night long

2. we went to the pool, and were forced to buy swim hats for everyone. We were also not allowed to put the cost of the hats on the room - instead a pool staff came with us to our room to collect the money (presumably to make sure we didn't run away with the swim hats)

3. upon leaving the pool I saw a sign in Chinese that read "if you have sexually transmitted disease please do not enter the pool"!!!! That was really disgusting, and presumably they were speaking from experience!

4. Poor service - we asked for a roll-away bed before our arrival and was told at check in that it should be in the room (but no one was sure about it. indicating poor internal communication). Well it wasn't in the room and took three more attempts to locate one

5. Poor service again - when we left the hotel we had to catch a morning flight. We were told by the staff that there were no taxis at the hotel but they had sent a staff onto the street to try and get one for us. We waited for 20 minutes(!!) until finally a taxi came - who told us there were no staff outside but plenty of empty taxis around. The hotel staff was lying to us and was just hoping a taxi would drive in on their own- I guess it's too cold to wait outside for a taxi in the early morning.

Finally. It's my first time writing a review, and I have stayed in easily over a hundred hotels in my life. This tells you how bad it is!!!!!!!

Hotel is out of town. It is plush in appearance, great entrance hotel . Rooms are really spacious with expensive materials and details.Yet not practica when it comes to functions of usel: e.g.very poor lighting in bathroom. Some details look already tired- even if hotel is quite new. We had a good rest. Breakfast experience was terrible. In a vast area there was only one person present, but was really helpless. You had to go long ways to find a hot plare with a jug of coffe and tea each.Toaster not working- other bread types not offered.Check-Out staff was smiling, but did not understand english- so was not able to provide any information or service. There is really no organized workstream in this hotel.

The Empark was the nicest hotel of the many I used in a two week tour of Yunnan. It meets international standards for quality, design, service, and cleanliness. The rooms and baths were wonderful.The service was excellent.

My only complaint is the location is not good for sightseeing in Kunming. The hotel is in the suburbs a good distance from the downtown and the lake. If you want to spend most of your time downtown, you should book a different hotel.
