I decided to stay in Mercure in Kunming because it was the only international hotel chain in town & thinking that the staff there would be able to speak & understand english well. I've stayed 3 nights there. The 1st night was just a walk in without any prior reservation made & they offer me RMB300nett without breakfast in a Superior. Staff there have minimal english speaking beside the Duty Manager that speak basic english only. The Superior room was clean & cozy. A plate of fruit & juice was send to our room later. I've decided that i make a 2nd & 3rd night room reservation thru accorhotels.com. The cost of the online booking was RMB285.14nett per night without breakfast. So i book 2 nights where the 3rd night include breakfast which cost RMB40nett per person. In the morning we proceed to The Tulip Cafe to check the breakfast buffett which only cost RMB10nett per person. I was confuse that i was charge RMB40nett thru the internet. The staff there explain to me that they have 2 breakfast venue where The Tulip Cafe is normally for Group breakfast which is RMB10nett & the Club breakfast for individual traveller on the club floor is RMB30nett. They have no idea why i was paying RMB40nett thru the internet. I decided to try the RMB10nett breakfast & found out the food selection was very minimal. The buffett only consist some 7 item include fruits & the staff is rude & we have to settle by cash for the breakfast. No wonder it cost RMB10nett. I check out after the breakfast & come back on my last days of my trip for the 2 nights stay. Upon arrival for my 2nd & 3rd stay the Reception can't find my reservation & took a while for them to find my booking. They claims that the payment was not received for my booking & insist me to settle my payment by cash whereby i've received a confirmation thru email on the booking which i've settle by credit card. Can't argue more i pay the rooms by cash + deposit. Lucky me i don't have to proceed to settle the RMB40nett breakfast & decided not to include breakfast. When we take a look at breakfast on the club floor the staff there was still napping & the buffett only consist 10 item. It's better to eat outside the hotel....... Later the day the Duty Manager call up & say the rooms payment for the 3rd night have been found which include the breakfast but for the 2nd night none. Funny it sound they refund the balance cash to me upon check out. Extra RMB cash for me to bring home on my last day....
