I totally agree with several of the previous reviews. This hotel has seen better days. The old style TV jutted into the room, which cut down on space. The air-conditioning didn't work. the bathroom had a weird set up with the shower in the bathroom next to the bath with no screen. There was a smell of cigarette smoke even though this was non-smoking. What a contrast to the ultra lux Crowne Plaza booked by Helen Wong Tours in Li Jiang.

Breakfast could have been better. Everywhere else has had a good range of cereals, including Bircher Muesli - here there was just the cardboard textured cornflakes, bran flakes and rice bubbles.

The service was Ok. At least for the first five star Hotel in Kunming was it quite good.

Stayed here for 2 nights for a friend's wedding (all the guests were booked into this hotel). Whilst this hotel has a 5 star rating it has clearly seen better days and at best this could now be described as a "Chinese 4 star". The rooms are very tired (stained carpets, peeling paint) and in need of serious renovation.

Check in was efficient as were the staff without being particuarly helpful. The hotel is conveniently located for both the airport and the train station but not really close to the down town area. However, this is only a 10 min taxi ride away (non-rush hour) since Kunming is not a big city.

I had stayed in the Empark hotel in 2008 and would definitely recommend that for the quality of the rooms over th Kai Wah Plaza. Not sure if the location of the Empark is any better though.

The hotel rooms are very old and tired. Kunming was the only down side on our Helen Wong 'Golden Route' tour. The guide was telling us about how much we had to tip as instructed by Helen Wong. This was not true and we thought a bit rude! This hotel is supposed to be 4 star, 2.5, would be close to it.
