The Sakura is an aging hotel in a great part of Kunming. The hotel has definitely seen better days, but is still a decent mid-range option for the area where it is located. The hotel is just a short 12 to 15 minute drive from the airport. The staff were all friendly and spoke an acceptable level of English. The room was average size, but is showing definite signs of wear and tear. The carpet looked old as did the curtains. The bed was a bit hard, but no harder than most beds found in Asia. There is a great Thai restaurant on the top floor as well as at least one other restaurant option within the hotel.

Not the best hotel in Kunming, but it is located in a great part of the city.

Good sized room, hard-as-a-rock bed. After the first night sleeping here I awoke feeling like the "Princess and the Pea." The bruises weren't showing but I had to take Tylenol for the all-over body pain. Only one lady spoke English at reception; Jeffrey, the bellhop, was bi-lingual and extremely helpful answering questions, etc. The Chinese/American breakfast was a C+; on the 13th floor (no kidding!) we could hear the horns and traffic due to thin windows. Very slow service in the Charlie's bar for meals. Overall, not worth the 500 yuan per night. We were in Kunming to organize our trip to Tibet.

I stayed at this hotel for business and realise there are limited choices in Kunming. The location of the hotel is the best part -- not far from the airport, close to the exhibition centre where I was going and not far to the Green Lake area by taxi. The front desk service was good, attentive and offering and hospitable. As for the rest it was average -- the rooms need some renovation, particularly the bathroom. The Thai restaurant on the top floor was ok, but not worth running to. The breakfast room was the worst. I assume it was a temporary thing, and the food was horrible. Best part was the free internet, which was also very fast! Considering the price paid, I guess it was value, but I'd be willing to try another hotel.

Very Good Value for comfortable rooms, english speaking staff and an alright breakfast. Close to airport and city centre, although very hard for the taxi driver to find, likely due to limited signage.

Sure it's not five star, but it's sufficient for a quick trip.
