The King World Hotel, also known as the Jin Jiang Hotel, is located about 10 to 12 minutes from the airport. Like many Chinese rated 4 star hotels, the Jin Jiang has a large, elaborate lobby. However, the rooms are quite basic and dull. I booked a Queen Room with breakfast from ctrip.com.
I arrived at the hotel around 11pm. I had 1 large bag and 1 smaller bag. The bell staff stood there looking at me as I hauled in my bags on my own. They did not offer assistance at all. I arrived at the check in desk and the staff there were friendly and helpful. They also spoke an acceptable level of English, though I preferred to use Chinese. My room was on the 18th floor, which did offer a great view of the city.
The room itself was average size. The bed was quite hard and similar to the beds found in cheaper hotels across China and other parts of Asia. The carpet in the room was quite dirty and the walls were in need of new wallpaper. There were luggage and shoe scuffs all over the walls. The room did come with a nice desk and internet is provided free of charge. The bathroom was good sized and was quite clean. The bathroom was surprisingly nice compared to the rest of the room. The room also came with a large, comfortable chair in the corner.
Breakfast was not great, but was decent. It caters mostly to Chinese guests, but did have a good selection of bread, eggs, bacon and fruit. They also served coffee.
The Jin Jiang is not a bad hotel. It is just an average hotel. It lacks originality and style. It is located close to the airport and is in a convenient part of Kunming. If I found a really good deal on this hotel, I would stay here again. Otherwise, I would go elsewhere.
