“City Location and Near to Train Station”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

We stayed one night in late December and after coming back from Dali, we stayed another night before flying to Singapore.

It is near to Train Station, cost CNY $8 for a cab or if you prefer, you can walk there.

Compared to most of the other hotels in China, this one considered reasonably good and decent with hot water to shower and inverter system in the room.

Room Tip: They have 2 buildings (A and B) and they provide free breakfast. Ask to stay in the building as brea...

“Avoid the King World”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2011

Note - some of the links/reviews here are mixing up King World Hotel and JinJiang (they are next to each other and have same management, but very different hotels -- JinJiang is much higher level).
King World is an older and very Chinese hotel. It smells of smoke throughout, even in the non-smoking rooms. It is very dated and badly needs refurbishing. The worst of the 9 hotels we stayed in during our trip. My best tip is to go for the newest hotel you can find. The hotels seem to be built to a high spec and then are never refurbished - so this one was probably top class in the early 80s and is now terrible. We had two rooms, and both were poor. One shower didn't work at all and our shower/bath was very mouldy - ee photo. Breakfast was terrible, again the worst we encountered. It was served in a small room with no air-con on two round tables to seat 12 each. The bowls/plates of those who'd already eaten were just left on the table. Poor selection of food, which wasn't well cooked. The only palable offering was cook-it-yourself toast, but even then I had to ask for some butter to go with it! In may have been the hotel but, on balance, we wished we'd not gone to Knuming - the Stone Forest wasn't worth the trip. Glad we only had one night here. Not recommended at all.

“Wonderful views from the 23rd floor restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011

This four star 584 room hotel makes a great first impression with its large marble-decorated lobby dominated by an impressive chandelier. Within the lobby is a large bar area and an excellent massage parlour where expert Thai-Chinese ladies charge 150 yuan (US$ 25.00) for a 2 hour feet and body massage (recommended!) or 68 yuan (US$ 11.00) for feet only.

Guest rooms are disappointingly standard-sized, however BBC World TV is available. A kettle and tea bags are provided, but no coffee so you would be well-advised to bring a jar of your favourite brand with you from home. Breakfast, where a breakfast chef cooks eggs to order, is served from 6.30am to 10.00am in the Circumgyrate Restaurant on the 23rd floor. If your room is situated in Block B you’ll need to descend to the lobby and take the lift in Block A to floor 20. There you get out and turn right to board another lift to take you up the final 3 floors. The restaurant no longer revolves, but you will be able to see the many solar panels that have been installed on apartment roof tops in this sunny city. Avoid the 3rd floor sauna, Jacuzzi and massage rooms which cater for the particular requirements of Chinese businessmen.

The hotel is located on Beijing Lu, 2 km south of the city centre and 5 minutes walk north from the train station. You can catch a #23 bus up and down this street for just 1 yuan (US$ 0.15) note or coin which you throw into a box in front of the driver as you board the vehicle.

“Decent for the price (note - King World and JinJiang are 2 very different hotels!side by side)”

Stayed at Kingworld. Note - some of the links/reviews here are mixing up King World Hotel and JinJiang (they are next to each other and have same management, but very different hotels -- JinJiang is much higher level).
Kingworld is an older and very Chinese hotel. Seemed like a very nice hotel from the 70s that had not been refurbished for a decade....so a bit worn (paint peeling in places etc.), but was overall clean. Bathroom, beddings, smell etc. was clean. The staff largely did not speak english (front desk could not understand what Pizza meant) but tried to be helpful -- the bellboy walked us a long way to get to a restaurant and went out to the road to get us a cab early morning.
For the price (we paid $40 for a huge room on the 'executive floor') a decent stay. Was a short walk to train station and a $3 ride to airport.

“Not bad for a few nights”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 May 2011

We had a total of 3 nights in this hotel as part of a Wendy Wu tour. The room was quite large but the bathroom was quite small. The beds were about the softest we had in China (which is still hard by normal standards). There were 2 english speaking channels on the TV but no tissues and this was the only hotel on our tour with NO hairdryer in the room. There was free internet available in the room but power outlets were limited which made it difficult to charge batteries in the laptop, cameras, shaver or toothbrushes at the same time. The hotel is in 2 separate buildings (building A and building B). Our room was in building B and breakfast was in building A which meant getting the lift to the ground floor, walking across to building A, getting the first lift up to the 20th floor and then another lift for a further 2 floors to the revolving restaurant. The view from the restaurant was OK but it didn't revolve at breakfast time. The breakfast was OK once you got there.

Room Tip: try to get a room in Building A
