This was our second stay - both one night, both about a week before Christmas - on our way from Kunming to Dali. Same efficient staff, clean facilities, and well appointed rooms. This is a full service hotel, complete with bar and coffee/tea area, substantial buffet breakfast (east and west food choices), and heat in the room (just a joke for those of you accustomed to traveling in southern China in winter.) On this visit, my husband and I had a king room with a comfortable sitting chair, TV with CNN, a terrific selection of teas, and a bathroom large enough to dance around in. Our 20 and 16 year old kids had a twin which I did not see, but no complaints were registered, so I take that as a positive.
The Hotel is right across the street from Green Lake Park which we walked through last visit - it's worth a couple hours to take in the local scene, from families to congregating elders to a bit of local music and dancing. This visit, however, we walked about 10 minutes in the other direction to a formal shopping area with a pedestrian mall - also a place to take in the local scene, as well as designer shops and several variations of Nike stores.
There are several good food choices in the area of the hotel. This time we ate at Jia Yan Restaurant along Green Lake Park not too far up the road from the entrance to Yunnan University, again about a 10 minute walk from the hotel. The restaurant was recommended to us by a Kunming native as somewhere he would eat (versus a tourist spot.) We loved our dinner here, and the setting is pretty special.
All in all - no complaints. Two perfectly fine visits to the Green Lake Hotel.
