Firstly this was a decent hostel.
Its position near the south gate is really good for seeing the city walls, drum and bell tower and going into the muslim quarter generally.
it was clean and relatively warm despite the sub zero temperatures.
i only stayed for 1.5 days as the main purpose of going to Xi'an was to see the terracotta warriors which we went to see straight from the airport. Ive no doubt theres plenty more to see in the area but i was pushed for time.
its very close (seconds away) to some bars on the same street which looked vaguely interesting (they were completely empty when we went but it was a very off peak period to go i suppose). Theres also a few more bars only 10 mins walk away near where old henry's place is ( the staff will direct you if needed).
it was interesting seeing the night markets in the muslim quarter just behind the drum tower which is very walkable from the hostel (15 mins). take your stomach in your own hands on some of the food stalls which we had mixed experiences of.
I think i would have rated this hostel higher in warmer weather when you can really appreciate the courtyards and the area is busier
