We booked 3 nights x 3 rooms to accommodate the whole family. Upon arrival we were upgraded with all rooms in close proximity on the same floor. The location is great although being just before CNY we found all taxi in the city hard to get so we resorted to buses which were extremely crowded but frequent and cheap. The rooms were good although a little tired but great value for money given what we paid so no complaints. We found some good and cheap local HK style dim sum for breakfast/lunch as the buffet breakfast was a little expensive given we were a party of 6. Having the 3 hotels on one site offered us the advantage of being able to us the Sofitel as well. Overall we were happy and pleased with our stay at the Mecure.

We spent 3 nights at the Mercure on Renmin Square Xian. It is a very nice hotel in an excellent, centrally located complex. We had a very nice room with a comfortable king size bed at a great rate via Hotels.com. An excellent buffet breakfast was included in the price. The desk staff spoke good English. We would definitely return.

Strength: The stay though short but was very pleasant as the front office staffs are very friendly. The hotel location is very centralised and convenient to walk around. The front office staffs also see to the delivery of fruit basket and chocolate in my room.

Weakness: The room is alittle tight and bed too small to accomodate 2 adults. Severe water leakeage from the bath cubicle to the toilet in one of the room.

As a grateful user of tripadvisor many times, I feel its important to add my opinion regarding the Mercure at Renmin Square. As a general lover of 5 star hotels I think the Mercure hotel (rated 4 stars) is a great choice if you choose to visit Xian. It's close enough for you to walk to major attractions such as the drum and bell towers, the rooms are fine and not too dated and the price you pay does not compare to any of the other hotels in the same area such as the Sofitel and Grand Mercure. Indeed you get full access to most of the Sofitel's facilities so you have the best of both worlds.I actually stayed a night at the Grand Mercure and paid nearly $40 extra and I have no idea why it is more expensive. Not to be too critical but if it came a choice between the two, the Mercure fairs better. My room at the Grand Mercure is more outdated, pokey and the bathroom seems quite dated...ie the shower is in the bath(a pet hate of mine!) Staff at both hotels are very attentive and try very hard to meet the tourists' needs.Overall I am very happy I chose to stay at the Mercure and it is probably the best valued hotel that I have stayed out (in terms of price and what you get) in a very long time.
