Location:

Located in Shamian Island, with a number of colonial style buildings. Unlike downtown Guangzhou, you won't find lots of people and vehicles but a place of quiet and relax. It is convenient to walk from hotel to the riverside and the famous Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street.

Although the hotel is near the Huangsha Metro Station, you will need to cross the footbridge from the station to Shamian Island (not good when you have many luggages).

The Hotel:

The hotel actually got 2 different blocks. We have booked the new block which is recently renovated. The new block have a smaller lobby and restaurant but the rooms are new. We have assigned a room facing the atrium, which means there is no view. The amenities inside is new and clean.

Service:

Check-in/out may take times, as the new block have 2 staff in the lobby only. The overall service is good. Few people use the restaurant so you couldn't expect any service or food quality. The breakfast is average but not bad.

I loved this location on the Shamian Island. The tree lined streets and the quaintness of the island is pretty magnificent. Really fun little shops in this area. Breakfast can't be beat.

The fact that this hotel is located in Shamian and it's a beautiful historic hotel, and I loved staying in the neighborhood says a lot about how terrible this hotel is overall. The main issue was that the room was an oven and they couldn't do anything about it the entire time. And when we complained about it, they just shrugged it off. They even had the nerve to say "locals like it this way", when one of our guests was a local. We couldn't sleep one night given how hot it was. This wasn't just us. We heard repeated complaints from everyone. For a while, we kept opening up the windows, but then we got the nice Guangzhou polution permeating our rooms. One nice thing is that they have a children's play area. Again, if it wasn't for bad service and a broken down AC/Heater system that they didn't care about, I would give this place a good review.

Good points: has own underground parking, exellent breakfast with freshly cooked omlet, inreresting part of the city, good efficient reseption, kindly arranged a complimentary card and birthday cake!
Other points: noisy room if your room facing the canal, it means busy multylevel motoway is just 40 meters away, it is in the west wing of the hote, I don't know what it is like in the east. Nothing to do for New Year evening in the aria.
