I read most of the reviews of this hotel, most were written from a totally Westerner point of view. Being Chinese from Hong Kong. My experience was quite different and less unpleasant. It was true that many of their clients smoke everywhere, such is the case even in 5 star top hotels in China, that's there "culture". Rooms were of ok standard, fictures may be tired but at least clean enough. Free LAN is a real bonus, just bring ur laptop and plug it in! Bed can be rock hard in western standard, but for us Chinese, we believe this is good for your spine, so this only becomes an issue if you are used to very soft bed. The fact that this hotel is very near the Guangzhou east station and a huge shopping center make this hotel standas out from the rest. If you are new to Guangzhou, just arrived with your suitcase, you'd be glad to know you don't need to toll your luggage around trying to queue up (long...) for a taxi, walk 5 minute and you are right there! And for the price around USD60 per night for standard room with breakfast, there really is nothing to say. If you are looking for a hotel suitable for foreigner with western standard (no smoking, soft bed, good breakfast, stafss with excellent English etc), this may not be for you. However, if you are more flexible and is budget-minded, this hotel is very worth considering. Because for the low price, they do offer a combination of comfort and convenience.

A few things about this hotel are worth noting:

1. We went to check out their 'fitness center' at about 9:00 PM. There were a bunch of hotel employees smoking as we got off the elevator. We started walking in the direction of the sign pointing to the fitness center. One of the smoking ladies came and grabbed us and FORCIBLY led us back to the elevators.

2. The bed is literally the hardest I have ever encountered anywhere. A straw mat on cement would have been just as comfortable.

3. The breakfast was, how can I put this...GROTESQUE. I saw a lady take a plate of partially eaten fruit off of a table and put it back into the serving plate on the 'buffet.' The decor in the dining area is amusing, as is the route to the dining area. Up stairs, down stairs, turn corner, up another set of stairs. Whoever designed this place deserves 'moron architect of the year award.'

4. Location is ok if you are coming in from Shenzhen or Hong Kong and don't really want to see much else in the city. Also, there is a sizable shopping mall within walking distance.
