I stayed at this prestigious hotel chain over a decade ago and took an opportunity to visit it again this year. The hotel may look slightly frayed on the outside stuck in the Medina heat, but it has been spruced up inside with the reception area being slightly remodelled and they have cut back on the gold fittings which looked rather garish when I first stayed here all those years ago.
As its the Oberoi brand you get a warm welcome, deluxe rooms but not all have the harem view. The food is still excellent and we always had a hearty buffet breakfast here in the mornings, the various Danish pastries and croissants were a highlight. There is a fitness centre to burn it off.
The hotel is short stroll to the harem and below the hotel is a small shopping precinct with brands such as Next, Milano, H&M and even a Starbucks.
It is not cheap to stay here especially during peak times but it does have the touch of class. It is a genuine 5 star hotel in my opinion. The lack of free wifi does seem mean though.
