Park Inn was our choice for a stay of 2 nights in Yekaterinburg. We booked this hotel because we had a significant discount, and also because of the good reviews in TA.
We did not try Restaurant Magellan in the hotel (except for breakfast which is served on the same place). The surroundings of Hotel Iset (5-10 mins away from Park Inn) are good for a quick lunch, as there are some restaurants offering 'business lunch' deals.
The good:
- Park Inn's location is definitely one of the points to highlight. The hotel is very well located on Malysheva Street, 15 mins walk away from Iset River. Yekaterinburg is a city that is best enjoyed on foot, and most of the landmarks in your guide are within 20 mins walk from the hotel. A taxi to the train station should take around 10 mins and cost no more than 250 rub.
- Breakfast was a pleasant surprise. There was a good selection of pastries, fruits (both fresh and dry), plus plenty of cheeses, hams and the usual hot dishes. Moreover, all food seemed to be fresh and you could see the restaurant staff constantly renewing/refilling the different plates.
The not-so-good:
- Upon our check-out, we were told that the amount we had to pay was much higher than what we expected, and this happened not once but two times in a 15-minutes timeframe. Upon check-in, the reception staff had confirmed the right amount to be paid and I agreed to pre-charge the amount on my credit card, making clear that final payment would be done on cash. At the moment of check-out, they handed an invoice with a much higher amount but this was immediately corrected when I told them of the inconsistency after which I paid in cash. 15 minutes later, when I went to fetch my bagagge, I was again told that there was an error and I had to pay a balance. I showed them again the print out of the reservation which had the price on it but they insisted that was per day and not per stay, until, after 5 to 10 min of arguing they called someone else who agreed with us.
- The shower in our bathroom lacked some pressure, as well as temperature. Using it at maximum pressure and only hot water, it was just acceptable (and weather was nice during the time we spent on the city; I don't know whether this may become a major issue in the cold winter months). Besides that, both the bathroom and the room were ok; expect no frills, but you get what you pay.
Despite the uncomfortable situation that I went through at the moment of check-out, I still think that Park Inn is a good alternative in Yekaterinburg, especially if you will spend most of your time outside the hotel.
