Over a year since I stayed and they may have done some repairs now- the seaview rooms were being upgraded in Dec 08. I'd stayed in one before and the view had made the dilapdated room worth it, despite tiles falling off walls and dirty cups , everything old and worn. But.. I have to say it has a faded resort charm, those rooms were big, bedroom & lounge room, high ceilings, huge windows with a stunning view over the gardens and sea. I guess they have made them expensive suites now. Last time, the room size was ok, was just as scruffy ,ancient plumbing... but beds are clean if the china isnt, and hotel location on the high promenade(lots of steps down to the sea) in nice old gardens is a big plus, especially for the price. Cafes nearby.I've never eaten there, havent seen a restaurant, only the bar but there must be one. Never stay on the street rooms opposite the nightclub! The lobby area is old and shabby, but the staff are ok, reasonably pleasant. Should add, there is a gay bar near this hotel, which may be a plus or minus for some.... If I recommend it here, take it as a little tongue in cheek, but I have stayed twice... it could be a great historical hotel if someone cared for it..
