“Best value, best location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2011

I stayed in the "economy" room and it was perfect for my trip. Location is right in the centre of town- walking distance to all major places and on main bus route as well. Price of room includes a nice buffet breakfast. If you don't like typical soviet style rooms, better choose a single or double. Cleaning staff were very efficient and usually 1 or 2 members of staff at reception speak enough English to get by, but better if you know a little Russian. I recomend going direct to hotel's website rather than through an online booking agency- you can save a lot of money. I would definately stay here again.

“Good hotel”

Bottom lines:

English speaking staff? Yes, some. English speakers won't have any trouble except with housecleaning staff

Clean? Yes

Internet? Yes, though a bit slow.

On site restaurant? Yes.

On site Hertz agency is a plus. I'd recommend this hotel, though I'm not sure if I'd recommend Rostov as a city.

“First Time In Russia”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2010

I went and reserved the Studio suite which is fair price of 100 dollars per night. It might be steep for some but if you want a decent quality room this is the best bet to rent. If you plan on going for a small room your not going to enjoy your stay compared to some people. Anyway what's great about the hotel is the location. Its smacked in the center of town and you have access to everything. For anyone who wants some "company" right next to the hotel is a park which the prostitutes hang out during the evening. You get a complimentary breakfast which is included. The hotel is clean and has been renovated. For those thinking of the Raddison Hotel I was told its the best in town however I didn't like the location when I saw it by chance. Anyway Rostov Hotel is a decent hotel you can't go wrong staying there. Also if you plan to use a taxi from the airport to the hotel call the hotel to arrange one a fair price is 200-300 rubles anything more they are ripping you off.

“typical soviet hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2008

This is a place that reflects soviet history :terrible design and terrible service.
We stayed here for 4 nights. The public areas of the hotel looked gloomy and dusty, with surly staff...
The room itself was cramped , totally outdated and ugly but functional...at least, it served a purpose to sleep. There was a cable TV with 1 English channel(CNN).
It was not a comfortable stay because it was far too COLD. The shower and toilet facilities were OK.
My biggest issue was staff rudeness. Once mom left for a convention without a key because i stayed in the room. When she returned to the hotel she was stopped at the entrance. They demanded to show them a key to be allowed to go to her room. Since she had no key, she was led to reception where she had to proove her identity during 15 mins. She was admonished for not having a key with her. She was treated like they're doing a favore letting her stay in this hotel. As she tried to calmly explain that she did not need her key because her daughter's in the room, they only got ruder.
If you must stay in this hotel ,be careful: they tried to overcharge us by 80 $. It took a lot of time to make them admit their mistake. We left ultimatelly disappointed with their service.

“my fav place in Russia, nice and honest locals”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2007

We have just returned from a week at the Hotel Rostov (Gostinitsa Rostov). The hotel is nice and we had no problems.
We stayed on the 4th f in the special comfort rooms . We were just expecting a few nibbles but breakfast was nice with continental ,Russian and other choices.

We paid $160 per night for a room in the comfort suite level which we thought little expensive value.
Overall I would say this is probably one of the best hotels in Rostov on Don in S.Russia

The locals in Rostov are nice honest people. Do not forget to ask the cab driver "skolka?" means "how much?" before you start your trip and learn how to say 100 200 250 350 and 400 rublees. 100 ruble is appr. 4 USD.
