“Extremely overpriced!”

The hotel is located between the station and the center of the city - but still, there is some distance to the station, so it is better to take a bus, but then it is quite ok.
The lobby looks nice, so the rooms (at least on 3rd floor, which is cheapest category) look really ugly: broken furniture, which seems to be imported from HongKong (Chinese characters on them), old carpets and bed wear, a somewhat clean bathroom, which has been renewed several times with paint!
It is ok to stay in the hotel, but it is highly overpriced - for that money, I had much better rooms in Tokyo!
As a highlight, they charge extra for the gym: 1200 rubles/hour!
Never again, I'd rather stay in a tent!

“Clean, helpful and quiet”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2010

OK I was there in 2008 really, but that's not an option
2 guys driving a £150 van from UK to Mongolia, sleep in van for 2 nights, hotel the 3rd to get shower and toilet facilities. We found this hotel, said that'll do and went in. Staff didn't speak English, but spoke German, - so do we. Double room, clean and cool, £30.00 with breakfast. Internet free for 1st half hour. Didn't mind a friend coming in to use shower. Phoned 5 minutes after we'd gone to bed to ask if we wanted pretty ladies. After 2 weeks of being hustled it was nice to be asked. You can always say 'No', no offence will be taken. I liked it, they didn't like the look of us until we came down showered and shaved, but were very helpful after that.

“Was this place a hotel or an escort agency?”

Irkutsk is a very nice town but this hotel proved to be a disappointment. The hotel is in a very poor state with run-down carpets. But the service proved to be the biggest deterrent. As breakfast was included, we asked if we could be provided with a breakfast box for our early train departure. Despite asking three times for it and being assured it was being done, nothing was provided. But the greatest deterrent was when the receptionist called our room at 2.30am asking us if we were interested in a beautiful Russian lady at that time of night. I think our guarantee of return business was vanquished right there!

“Simple but OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 May 2010

We were in Irkutsk for just one day as part of our transMongolian train-trip. The train arrives at 06.00 and you can get on again at 21.00 (local time). Since we wanted to shower and have a place to hang/sleep if we wanted to, we booked the Angara Hotel for the day (our travelagent at YourPlanet arranged that we could use the room for the entire day, although the hotel was chosen by us and not YourPlanet). The hotel is located close to the train station and in the center of Irkutsk, so we were able to do the sightseeing by foot, but did take a taxi to the train station (it's close, but not that close to the hotel).
We did shower in the hotel and that was fine, although the hotel is in need of a thorough renovation (see pictures). The shower was warm and pressure was good.
The beds we did not use, so I can not comment on that.
I felt that the room should be cleaned a little better.
The hotel staff was friendly - I read a review that they were not, but we did not have any problems. Of course staff members can change, but in my experience, if you start a sentence with "pazalsta" (please) the Russians tend to be friendly.
