Stayed 2 nights at this hotel this autumn. My previous stay was marked by instant calling from ladies (for money), that time it was really quiet! I appreciate the breakfast, especially the cheese cake, the sauna and swimming pool, that were not crowded, and I could enjoy it almost alone. The staff was polite and helpful

While this hotel was not terrible it really needs to improve. Room was very small and lots of sharp corners sticking out. Bathroom small, no amenities, only shower gel. Called for room service, the girl didn't speak English, so instead of saying something in Russian and going to find someone who did, she simply hung up on me. Finally, through reception was able to order food. when it came, the salmon fillet was hard and totally dry, and greek salad just a few chopped veg with 3 tiny chunks of feta cheese. Not at all recommendable. My colleague was staying at the hotel Art next door, brand new, excellent service and excellent food... and cheaper. Next time I'll give Shalyapin a miss and go next door.

It is a Russian hotel - so don't expect the levels of service that you get in Europe - but altogether, a very pleasant stay and not bad.

Just be careful that what appears on your hotel bill is what you ordered - there does seem to be a disconnect between what you say to the waiter and what the waiter writes down - but this is the same in almost any non-english speaking country!

Fantastic modern hotel in great location. Helpful staff, good facilities, great value for money. Best breakfast I've ever had in a Russian hotel. Even if Kazan wasn't such a great place to visit, I'd make the effort to visit this hotel for a relaxing weekend away. It is on a lively street full of shops, restaurants and bars but the room was quiet. A peaceful morning swim with the sun glinting off the golden onion domes of the church next door onto the water is an experience you don't get in many places in the World.
