We've been to Kazan in early November and while the weather was awful (raining/snowing with strong winds) the hotel was a really really nice place to hide from all the weather troubles and even more :)
I believe it's an only 5* hotel in Kazan and while we were choosing between Mirage and Shalyapin which is twice cheaper we've still chosen Mirage because of its design and amenities.
It belongs to a Turkish JOY hotel chain, it is a quite new hotel which is located right opposite the Kremlin, 10 minutes walk to the railway station and 10 minites walk to the pedestrian street with all the restaurants and cafes.
We've stayed in a standard room which was quite big, with a king size bed, table and two armchairs, TV set and fully equiped bathroom.
The bed was absolutely wonderful, mind you, we were on a romantic getaway in Kazan' so that was quite important :)
The staff is well trained, they knew us by names from the second day, they are very pleasant and helpful, the "do not disturb" plate worked very well, which is not to be found in all russian hotels. The room was made very quickly, sometimes even late at night.
The breakfast was quite good too with at least 5 hot dishes and many cold ones, fruit, youghurts, fresh juices and desserts.
There's a beer restaurant in the hotel with its own beer brands, a Sushi restaurant, and a European restaurant.
There's also a swiming pool and gym in the hotel but I can't tell you much about it apart from its existence.
To sum it all I very much recommend you hotel Mirage, which is a truly 5* European level hotel.
