The Slavyanskaya in Tobolsk is almost the only viable choice in this city, and a surprisingly good one. In fact, it was probably the most modern and professional hotel we encountered in Siberia (my definition of Siberia begins after Ekaterinburg). Rooms are clean, modern and comfortable, and the buffet breakfast was quite sophisticated by Russian hotel standards. There is even a nightclub in the hotel, but since we were there early in the week, it was closed. The location makes most points of interest in Tobolsk out of reach by foot, but taxis are inexpensive, and there is even a nearby bus that will take you all the way to the wooden houses in the lower part of the city. If I were ever again in Tobolsk – which admittedly is unlikely – I would make a beeline for this hotel.
