the hotel is operated by sharks
on check in i had to pay a registration fee, as a foreigner with 3 year visa i am exempt from this but they insisted on charging me anyway, i never did get my actual documents in return thereby proving i didnt actually need to register, so this was simple theft
2 minutes later i enquired about location of a place i wanted to go to and elected to walk rather than take a taxi but they decided at that point to call a taxi, then cancel then try and insist i paid for it much to my bewilderment
2 rip off attempts in under an hour, something of a record even for russia
about the hotel ,its a run down old building thats had a very low quality refit, and is clearly the standard format soviet hotel with a lick of paint, well not everywhere, paint was peeling from all window ledges and frames
bedroom was not too bad albeit with a childsize single bed, bathroom very budget with old soviet metal half size bath, and this is in the ''business class'' rooms
water had an odd smell a curious combination of cigarette smoke and pee, never did figure that one out
room had a good view of some canal, slept very little as room too hot, opening windows resulted in serious noise from main road that goes past either from vehicles and the occasional noise of the locals arguing with their girlfrinds after a nightout
didnt eat anything there for obvious reasons
70 pounds very pricey for this
location very far from centre so not good for 99% of people 99% of time, i only chose it as needed to be in this area
non russians should avoid this hotel to avoid continuous fleecing attempts, russians should avoid it simply because its a poor hotel
