Stayed 4 nights and were very impressed. Individual rooms very comfy and stylish. Gorgeous sitting room, cosy dining room and smoking room (yes, this is Russia!), pretty courtyard garden. Old mansion house building on a canal with views of two beautiful cathedrals and old buildings. Just off a frequent bus route but walking distance to shops, bars, nice restaurants plus sights and Marinsky theatre. Real bonus was the food - great breakfast and excellent meals served literally when you wanted. Plus the most attentive but discrete staff you could wish for - so helpful! Highly recommended.

I have been to this hotel several times. It is one of the best places I have visited during the last 5-7 years. The service is very good, rooms are nice and the most important there is atmosphere! This place I should mark like - MUST visit!

We stayed at Alexander House in early June (2010). We enjoyed the property, friendly staff and excellent location. We were in the Marakech Room which was very spacious and enjoyable. We did have a mosquito issue one night (caused by me opening the window), but the staff resolved this for us. The restaurant was amazing and is what really stands out for me personally. The food on offer was authentic (it must have been prepared daily by a resident babushka, or else her recipes had been inherited by the resident chef). Home made pickles, borsch and other ukranian and Baltic dishes. It is worth eating there regularly. Overall, my wife and I have no problem recommending Alexander House to business travelers and vacationers of all age.

I took my 80-year old mom to St. Petersrburg and was extremely worried about how to get her around the city and to sights, concerts, etc. The staff at Alexander House arranged events, got the tickets, arranged cars to drop us off and pick us up. The most amazing service I have ever had at a hotel anywhere.

The hotel itself is in a part of the city that is improving but still very nice and close to sights. It is a little funky in its layout since it is a converted old home. But it very much adds to the charm of the place.

The restaurant is 24 hour and great. We are 11 hours off in terms of the time difference and often were up late. The restaurant delivered beautiful meals, fresh-baked bread at 2 pm in the morning!

All in all, a great base of operation for the cultural and architectural attractions of the city.
