From the moment we stepped out of the taxi at the Kempinski we were made to feel like royalty. Our bags were whisked away to magically reappear in our room without fuss or delay.
The entrance foyer was a Christmas spectacle with beautiful trees and gingerbread houses dotted all around and life size characters from the “Nutcracker” ballet awaiting our arrival.
A children’s choir were singing carols in front of the tree, pastries cakes nuts and mulled wine were available and aplenty whilst enjoying the entertainment.
We were greeted by the front desk assistant manager who immediately took us to reception and swiftly and efficiently processed our reservation. We were then escorted to our room and given a very detailed account of all of the facilities available to us and also explanations of all of the hotels restaurants tea rooms and wine cellars.
The room was a good size and extremely clean. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom had a walk shower and separate bath. We arrived to a complimentary bottle of wine, fruit basked and mineral water. (The water is replenished on a daily basis)
A nice touch is the “Room Comfort” menu which offers, scented candles, bath salts and bubbles, massage oil and body scrub all complimentary. Absolutely delightful we thoroughly enjoyed them.
The cleaning “fairies” sneaked in and out very discretely (no screaming staff or doors banging.) Turndown service was consistent which is rare these days.
Breakfast was the best we have ever had, again, consistently and with very good quality. The staff was friendly professional and slick. Dirty plates were removed immediately, empty cups and glasses refilled without even requesting it. The staff are alert attentive and very discreet. Should also mention the champagne every day which also made us feel quite special.
The restaurant is romantic lit by candles and has a panoramic view over the city. Food was first class and the service attentive and friendly. Wines and champagne also very nice. Only negative is that customers can smoke here, but not a huge issue as it is a big room and air conditioned.
The relaxation centre is small, a steam room, sauna and Jacuzzi…three gym pieces and a couple of loungers. However it is very clean and has a selection of speciality teas, fresh juices and cookies.
We met several managers and many very professional team members.
In conclusion, would we recommend this hotel? Yes absolutely. We travel extensively and to some very nice places. We would rate the Kempinski as one of (if not the) best hotels we have ever had the good fortune to stay at.
To Michael Schibler, which we find a very professional and attentive hotel manager and his team, good luck and best wishes for 2012. And thank you for helping us to have the experience that we did in St Petersburg.
