“VFM”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 June 2011

stayed here 2 nights in June with my girlfriend and enjoyed it. its a nice hotel but the breakfast was not what we expected. the breakfast timing was 9am -11am, however when we reached the meal room at 10:45 most of the food was over and the remaining was cold so we skipped the breakfast on both days.

The rooms were clean and so were the toilets ( which is very important for us when travelling!!) decent stay in the hotel and helpful staff at the reception and housekeeping.

Wifi is free but the signal is weak. its a little noisy when you have someone staying next door due to the thin walls.

Another set back was the location of the hotel. We were informed when booking that the hotel was in SPB centre near the metro however it was not so. so expect to walk for about 7-10 mins to the nearest bus stop. The area around the hotel looks a bit rundown but its safe to walk even late at night! you can get a taxi from the central part of SPB to the hotel for around 150 rubles.
all in all a comfortable stay.we were on a budget.

“A three star good value for money hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2010

Stayed here for 10 days on holiday with my 27-years old son.

This hotel is not a luxury hotel but is a good value for your money in the expensive city of St Petersburg and matches very well its description and comments by other guests on this site.

Rooms are decent and clean but unspectacular mainly due to rundown carpets and small bathrooms. Noise insulation deserves improvement: in some rooms you can hear TV behing the wall and high heels treading along the corridor.

We have changed our first room because of a bit of unpleasant smell there probably from smoking. Although there is a non-smoking policy in the hotel I saw people smoking in the staircase, which leaves terrible smell all over the place.

Wi-Fi internet connection is free but not stable with Skype.

Staff are very good and friendly and trying their best. The restaurant is small and cosy, you feel like in a parisien cafeteria. Breakfast is Russian style: buck wheat, sour cream, oats porrige, sliced tomatoes and cucumbers, mashed potatoes, pancakes, pirozhki, sausages, chicken, orange juice, cranberry juice, joghurt, coffe, tea, etc. not luxurious but decent and filling.

It is a bit out-of-the-way in a rundown but quite area. Expect a 10 minutes walk to the nearest bus stop unless you are in time to catch the free shuttle bus from the hotel to the tube station. Also, you can get a taxi or flag down a passing cars to get a lift if you speak Russian (around 120 Rb = £2.50 from Nevskiy Ave.).

Not the luxury choice but don't rule it out if you are on a budget.

“Excellent hotel - great breakfast”

We stayed here for 3 nights, it is an easy 20-30 min walk to the tourist area of the city and the hotel provides a free shuttle bus in the morning and evening which is really handy but a little difficult to find the first time round (directions below). The area is a little run down but we felt safe enough walking around even in the early morning and later in the evening. As it is off the usual tourist route it was nice and quiet in the evenings and seemed more 'russian authentic' which was nice. The staff did not speak much English but were very nice and if you get stuck their sister hotel has English speaking staff you can call. The breakfast was excellent, lots of fruit, veg, cheese, meat, bread and cakes. The restaurant food was good but a little pricey compared to what you pay in the centre. The beer is good! The only down side is that the hotel rooms are not airconditioned and it was hot while we were there, but you can safely open the windows (mosquito mesh and a lock) and they do provide an electric fan. The room and bed were very comfortable and the bathroom was clean and had a good shower.
How to find the shuttle bus - with your back to sennaya plochad metro, cross at the pedestrian crossing towards the K3 bus (this goes to and from the airport and is really cheap!) turn left and walk along the busy road past all the little shop booths, at the end of the booths turn right towards the waterway - you will see yellow K1 buses, cross the little black bridge over the waterway and look for the minibus with 'Amaranta' written on the side which comes every 30 mins on the hour during operating times (check the hotel website).
Note - The city sightseeing tour does not run between 12 and 2 each day, we did not know this and spent an hour waiting before giving up and walking (which was probably more fun anyway!)

“A good hotel in a quiet place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2010

I stayed there with my bf just for one night but I loved this small hotel. The building is quite old but it was renovated totally. It's located on the small island close to the Mariinsky theater (10 mins by foot). We got a small room on the first floor. The size of the room approx. 12 m2. But it was very nice decorated with some paintings on the walls. The bathroom comes with shower.
The breakfast was included in the price (by the way, the price was 20 euros for 1 night). Choice of dishes was good and the quality of food was ok. I can reccomend this hotel.

“Good valua for your money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 March 2010

Most of the comments complain about the distance from the centre of St. Petersburg , but even in very cold weather (minus 25° Celcius and an ice cold wind) we didn't mind walking . It's about 2O minutes to the Izaäkcathedral . Even if you don't like walking , you can take the shuttle from the hotel . In our case was it impossible , the shuttle didn't start due to the cold so we had to walk on the only day we wanted to take it . No worries !
The only thing is that the staff is mainly Russian speaking , only some of them know how to communicate in Englisch , but they are not always around .
