We stayed for four nights and on the whole enjoyed the stay. The rooms are shared areas have very modern decoration, and this includes the toilets and shower rooms which have new fittings and tiled areas. There is someone seemingly always cleaning (as I write this on one of the Internet PCs the cleaner is mopping behind me!). There are good facilities across the three floors, including shower and toilet facilities on each floor, two kitchens both with hob and utensals which we used to make dinner on three nights to save money.
The location is good, opposite the main Moscow police HQ, around 5 minutes walk, albeit through an unlit passageway, to the nearest metro, and only 20 minutes walk to the centre. There is also a small supermaket just 2 minutes down the road.
There were just a couple of minor issues, which I would not usually make mention of but I think it's applicable when you consider the rooms cost approx 47 UK pounds per night. Our room was quite small, whilst well decorated, but sat above a local restaurant which meant it was quite noisy on Friday evening until about midnight. The first floor kitchen doesn't have a toaster, which seems crazy.
But the read bug-bare, which has been mentioned by other reviewers is the cost of the registration fee which is required if your stay is longer than 3-days in a location. Firstly the staff seem to be on some sort of commission as they seem really keen to sell the service, pointing out the 5,000 rouble fine if caught by the police. Secondly, they charge 600 roubles per person for this, around 13 UK pounds. Compare this to our last location, the Friends Hostel (formally Apricot) in St Petersburg that changed only 200 roubles each. This attitude is also summed up by charging 10 roubles for each page of printouts when asking for directions / information. Not something that would make or break your trip, but as most residents are, like us, backpackers staying on a tight budget, I think this sort of "bleed em dry" profiteering is unjustified when they are already charging a fair fee for the stay.
