“Elegant hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2010

Overall we were impressed with the hotel but our stay was not without issue. When you walk in to the hotel a lovely smell greeted us and the lobby is decorated in a sumptious style. The reception staff were helpful and spoke good English. It's approxmiately 30 minutes on foot to the Red Square. The nearest metro is 5-7 minutes walk. We used the metro without any problems.

We stayed in room 331 for 3 nights in September. The room was towards the back of the hotel and hence did not face out onto the road, however our window did overlook the restaurant terrace and so had limited privacy. The night we arrived there was a wedding reception in the restaurant with loud music and karoake playing. The noise was intrusive even with double glazing, air conditioning on full blast and ear plugs in. When we complained we were told it was because of the wedding and that only 2 other rooms were available for us to move to but which weren't as goodas the one we were in. So we stayed in room 331 and it was blissfully quiet the following nights. The room had a comfy bed and a safe. Unfortunately there was only 1 English speaking channel (BBC World) on the TV. There was a good selection for breakfast. We didn't try the restaurant but the menu in the room looked pricey. There is room service but also a supermarket next door if you want cheaper drinks/nibbles. We didn't use the swimming pool or sauna as we got in late each day after spending all our time out and about sightseeing.

On our travels we tried the cafe outside the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour - can't remember the name - and would recommend it. We sat outside wrapped up in blankets watching the world go by and had delicious mint tea and chocolate pancakes.

We booked our trip through Russian Gateway and unfortunately would not recommend them as they booked us onto different flights than promised i.e. not direct flights with British Airways. They only advised us of the change a week before travel and so there was nothing we could do but accept. The return flight was indirect with only a 30 minute connection time between the 2 flights which we questionned but were told had been used several times without problem. Needless to say the first flight was late and so we missed our connection. We ended up having to take 3 flights to get back from Russia to Heathrow.

“Wonderful Hotel, excellent location”

I stayed for 5 nights at the Kebur Palace with my husband for our 12th wedding anniversary. The Kebur is a four star hotel, but small in comparison to some of the generally enormous Moscow hotels. We were 10 minute walk from Arbat and 15/20 minute walk to the Kremlin. Metro station only 5 minutes away. The staff are helpful, friendly and professional, breakfast provides everything you could possibly want (buffet style - hot and cold choices), the pool is lovely and the jacussi welcome after a long day sightseeing. The rooms are elegant, the bathroom, sensational. Everywhere is spotless.

We used the company, Russian Gateway UK, to organise the trip here and then transfer and stay in St Petersburg. They were excellent, organising Visas, guides, entrance to all the sites, ballet and circus tickets.

  • Liked — Relaxed but professional atmosphere
  • Disliked — Price of the restaurant / bar (very expensive), but reasonable cafe/bar across the road

“Very central, great food!”

I have already stayed in TIFLIS (recently been renamed into KEBUR PALACE HOTEL) hotel couple of years ago and this year there was no doubt in my mind where to stay when I'd be in Moscow this July. Location-wise it couldn't be better, situated in one of the upmarket areas of Moscow, the Ostozhenka street is only 5 min walk away from the biggest cathedral in Moscow, the Cathedral of Christ The Saviour, and about 20 min walk from the Red Square. The walk is not much for a young traveller, my parents preferred to take a taxi though. Beware of the Moscow poor road planning: plagued with severe traffic jams it's best to avoid taxis altogether in the rush hour.
The rooms are standard top end of 3-4* hotel, immaculately clean and cleaning ladies are polite. There is a wonderful Georgian restaurant on site which gives guests a 15% discount on the bill. The breakfast was great: fresh fruits salad (not from a jar!), selection of breads and hot meals: omelet, bacon and egg, sausages, cured hams, cheese, porridge etc.
In the basement they have a smallish swimming pool and sauna, very pleasant. I would probably recommend any of my friends to stay there. Have a happy holidays!

“Not for Leisure Travelers”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2006

The hotel is okay for business travelers, but not for leisure travelers. There is no concierge to help make arrangements or provide information about tourist activities such as tours, etc. The front desk personnel do not have the knowledge level necessary to help with these types of requests, nor do they have the time.

Watch out for the wake-up call service as they forgot to call us one day. This is not good if you have an important appointment.

Rooms are clean, but a bit noisy if you are near the Georgian restaurant that is attached to the hotel. However, avoid the 2nd floor, as for some reason you will hear the rumble of the metro trains passing underground every three minutes until 12:30 am each day. They start up again at about 5:30 am.
