“Value for money - but only in Moscow”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2011

The week before I paid the same price for a Suite on 60th floor of a fantastic hotel in Tokyo (which is not known for being cheap). Therefore a spacious broom cupboard with view of kitchens and rumblings of the metro did not seem comparable.

However, we are in Moscow, and therefore seemed acceptable, compared to the alternatives, clean, warm, fairly central, average breakfast, small and limited bar.

Non-smoking policy never implemented, (non-smoking signs used as ash-trays !). Will return, but only because of limited alternatives.

“A week at Hotel Kebur Palace”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

I spent 6 nights at Hotel Kebur Palace. Comfortable room (but tiny), flat screen-TV, good bathroom, pittoresque view to the inner yard. Very decorative lobby and breakfast restaurant. Good and versitile breakfast in a pleasant environment (however one morning I saw a cuckroach walking on the breakfast table). Nice and friendly receptionists. Pricy (199 euro day) as Moscow hotels nowadays are. Internet connection, spa, swimming pool which I didn't use.
Closest metro station is Park Kultury, by metro you can get cheap and quickly to down town Moscow, e.g. musical theatre, Bolshoi theatre and Red Square.
There are also some restaurants around besides the Hotels restaurant. On the same side street of Ostozhenka Str. where hotel is located is a really nice Italian restaurant. There I had my best Italian meal ever.

“Good Location, Wifi not free”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 June 2011

Mid sized hotel in quite a central-ish location approx 20-30mins walk to red square, and 5-10 mins from nearest tube station.

I was initially in a very small room and transfered to a more reasonably sized room after a few days. Clean and comfortable. Breakfast has a reasonable choice. Restaurant in hotel was OK, but ate out in the local areas most nights.

“Elegant hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2010

Overall we were impressed with the hotel but our stay was not without issue. When you walk in to the hotel a lovely smell greeted us and the lobby is decorated in a sumptious style. The reception staff were helpful and spoke good English. It's approxmiately 30 minutes on foot to the Red Square. The nearest metro is 5-7 minutes walk. We used the metro without any problems.

We stayed in room 331 for 3 nights in September. The room was towards the back of the hotel and hence did not face out onto the road, however our window did overlook the restaurant terrace and so had limited privacy. The night we arrived there was a wedding reception in the restaurant with loud music and karoake playing. The noise was intrusive even with double glazing, air conditioning on full blast and ear plugs in. When we complained we were told it was because of the wedding and that only 2 other rooms were available for us to move to but which weren't as goodas the one we were in. So we stayed in room 331 and it was blissfully quiet the following nights. The room had a comfy bed and a safe. Unfortunately there was only 1 English speaking channel (BBC World) on the TV. There was a good selection for breakfast. We didn't try the restaurant but the menu in the room looked pricey. There is room service but also a supermarket next door if you want cheaper drinks/nibbles. We didn't use the swimming pool or sauna as we got in late each day after spending all our time out and about sightseeing.

On our travels we tried the cafe outside the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour - can't remember the name - and would recommend it. We sat outside wrapped up in blankets watching the world go by and had delicious mint tea and chocolate pancakes.

We booked our trip through Russian Gateway and unfortunately would not recommend them as they booked us onto different flights than promised i.e. not direct flights with British Airways. They only advised us of the change a week before travel and so there was nothing we could do but accept. The return flight was indirect with only a 30 minute connection time between the 2 flights which we questionned but were told had been used several times without problem. Needless to say the first flight was late and so we missed our connection. We ended up having to take 3 flights to get back from Russia to Heathrow.
