“excellent value in high priced moscow”

My wife and I stayed at the Gamma-Delta for two nights at the end of our Russian cruise. We were pleasantly surprised by how nice our room in the Gamma section was. It looked recently renovated. It had a great view. It was tidy and spacious. I was happy to see free wifi in the room. The only negative for me was the smell of smoke although it was supposed to be a nonsmoking room.
We loved the location, minutes from the metro, a short ride to the Kremlin, and steps away from the big market. Excellent value too at $108 US per night, ridiculously cheap for Moscow.
A word of caution: if you are arranging transfer to the airport, make sure you tell the taxi company which section (Gamma or Delta) you want to be picked up at. I just said 'Izmailovo Gamma-Delta Hotel and the driver ended up waiting at the Gamma section at the back of the hotel. The front main entrance is at the Delta section. As a result, in the confusion, the taxi was half an hour picking us up, which caused us anxiety.

“Utilitarian”

Moscow is an expensive place for hotels; the Izmailovo is a no frills value for money hotel in the outskirts of Moscow. The hotels are large tower blocks which I believe were part of the Olympic village for the 1980 Olympics. Although out of the centre of Moscow this poses no problems as there is a metro stop outside the hotel. The metro is extremely cheap and a highly efficient and effective way of getting around Moscow. The room I had was a reasonable size, the bathroom was clean, there was also a fridge but no kettle, there was also no air conditioning, but it was not required. Breakfast was 400 roubles, the dining room was busy but there was a very good variety of foods available, there should be something available for everyone. Around the hotel there are shops, restaurants and bars. The hotel does have a pool and sauna which you have to pay extra for, however when asked the staff seemed rather vague about their existence and seemed to actively discourage their usage. The hotel also provides a luggage storage service for a fee. Overall a decent basic cheap hotel

“Surprisingly good....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2011

Was plesantly surprised about this hotel - some of the ratings seem to make it seem quite bad. The checkin was relatively quick (considering the amount of usual Russian paperwork involved) and more people in the hotel in general seemed to speak English than I expected. The room was neat and clean, and a decent size, with a good view over the adjacent park and markets. The complex is huge, with all kinds of facilities, though the absence of a decent sized convenience store was a notable exception. There are a number of bars and restaurants, which is useful. The location is in some ways negative and in others positive. It is about 20 minutes by metro to the centre of town, but it's probably far enough that you kind of have to stay in town all day, rather that being able to quickly zip back to the hotel for a rest or something before heading back out. On the positive side, it is located next to a big lake and park, and the Izmailovo markets, located right out the front of the hotel is fantastic and cheap to pick up bargains, particularly on souvenirs. In a city where it is hard to find a decent mid-range hotel, I would stay here again, as the value for money is quite reasonable.

“Excellent value - very "Russian" service”

We stayed in this hotel for a week at the end of August. It is superb value for Moscow, rooms were excellent (we stayed in Delta, I believe the rooms there were recently renovated), no-smoking floor, very clean. Breakfast was not included but you can buy it for 400 roubles (around 10 euro) and the variety of food is brilliant. Had dinner there a couple of times (buffet choice ) - 480 roubles and very decent too. Wine prices (as everywhere in Moscow) were awful though - the cheapest bottle being 900 roubles. I do not recomment lunch there though - it was supposed to be table service and the food and 'the service' were dreadful.
They still can't grasp the idea of service and still are very-very eastern European...but - that's Russia for you! Provided you don't mind an occasional lack of smiles of staff and incompetent waiters...who cares?- it is a brilliant choice for a budget-wise traveller. Tip: don't book your room at the reception - always online as it come out a LOT cheaper! It is also very handy location wise - 14 minutes - 5 metro stops and you are in Kremlin! Metro is just a 2 min walk from the hotel. Overall, it is definitely a very good option to stay in Moscow.

“Forced heating in August!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2011

The hotel is a huge old soviet complex. the rooms have been remodeled quite a while ago, but still the internal infrastructure remains. When we entered the room there was a huge towel heating bar in the bathroom that was literally burning. it managed to heat our room to a constant 31°C - while there were just 15° outside - with open window and a fan running (which was broken and just worked on stage 1). When we asked to turn that thing off we had to learn that it can't be stopped since it is connected to the hot water circuit. Instead we were told we're free to upgrade to rent a room with air condition.
Air condition agains the heating, not the outer temperatures!
I don't want to know about the fun with the also centralized heating system in winter since there is no chance to influence the level of the radiator neither!

Moreover - old matrasses, I almost disappeared in it.
Loud fridge, had to pull the plug at night
old disgusting bathroom

unresponsive unfriendly staff that almost doesn't speak english - in a business hotel!

pros are: it's cheap and close to a metro and some supermarket infrastructure, but that's not directely related to the hotel itself where I couldn't think of much positive.
well the rooms were clean I have to admit.
