I remember hotel Metropol during the period where the Soviet Union was dissolving. It was still the most famous hotel in Russia. Although run-downed with years of neglect the Metropol was still majestic with artistic wood work and antique furnitures. The country was still in a state of insecurity so talking to a cashier or front desk staff was through fortified glass. But now what a change? A jewel in the heart of Moscow at walking distance from the Red Square and accross the street from the famous Bolshoi Theatre. My stay was totally enjoyable and I had a chance to dine at Boyarsky Restaurant which offers authentic traditional Russian cuisine from ages-old recipes ( It was delicious and memorable.) Also I tried their rich and sumptuous morning buffet at the "Metrpol Restaurant", a high scale European culinary "salle a manger" (that was also excellent.) Their patisserie chef should be commended. (the creme patissiere that he prepared is the best I ever tasted)
